Trump's Ed. Pick with No Teaching or Admistrative Experience

Trump should get rid of the dept of Education.

Let the locals handle the schools.

My sister-in-law is a public school teacher and she is very liberal - but even she believes the left has destroyed education and she wants it to become more local.

It's a toss up between which appointee is less qualified for their position between her and Carson.

But I think she's got the potential to eff up more things since she can derail the education of kids for years. I have mixed feelings on school vouchers and so I'm lukewarm on someone who is all in on the subject.

The progressives made their bed - the destruction of their institutions is welcomed by me. I have no issues if all leftists propaganda and indoctrination was removed from public education by force under the banner of national security. There's a reason most leftists have ended up on a wall after the nationalists of the country they were trying to destroy wake up.

So you're insane? Got it.

no, i'm a realist. That the left is now waking up to the very possibily of things going very badly for them is not my concern.

You don't give a shit about the future of my country as long as your "side" wins.

I agree, she has no business being selected.

I do find it funny how experience now matters after Obama is leaving office. That white dude had so much experience coming into the WH in 08.

You said you sister wanted "education to be more local" and I presume you agreed with her?

Because your journalism degree definitely covers that schools are already funded, operated, and led on a local basis. In fact, even big scary Common Core (which recieved state input) leaves it to the states for choice of curricula.

But you knew that perro. Wait, you did know that right? You wouldn't be poorly educated would you?

How is appointing someone who is completely unqualified to a cabinet position a left/right issue?
Trump couldn't have found someone who was conservative and qualified? Of course he could have.
Instead he chose to curry favor with one of the wealthiest Republican political families in the country.
You're being pretty obtuse by failing to recognize this point.

Trump's pick for Secretary of Education, Besty Devos has never attended a public school. Nor has she ever worked in a school of any kind, at any level. Nor does she have political experience, for what that's worth.

She is a wealthy (billionaire) heiress who has used her money and connections to open up a web of charter schools in Michigan. The charter schools she has opened are among the worst performing schools in the state.
Unfortunately a lot of trump supporters want to see Government run like a business, and a candidate such as her seems to fit the bill. Even though Government can't be run like a business, and her business, at least according to that article, wasn't a huge success.

I like school vouchers as tool to tackle specific problems and specific districts. I don't like the idea of replacing all public education with the voucher system.

The problem your ideological blinders won't let you see is that this isn't going to result in some ideological purge throughout the educational system, it is a much larger issue.

Devos is a) A Christian Conservative activist, and b) has been critical of Trump in the past. So this is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. He'll have conservative critics as part of his team, not all "yes men."

Yeah, we've discussed this. Definite pros but some concerning cons.

My biggest concern with privatized education is that market forces do not work to provide equal quality to the masses.

But that really should be secondary to her ability to do the job. Sure, it's laudable that he embraces people who superficially don't always agree with him but that doesn't make them qualified for every task.

Judging by the literacy rates and the number of dumbasses, this doesn't sound like a bad idea. Look at what the education system churns out now.

The country didn't go for it when it was Perot, running on the idea that the America needed a leader with sound business practices, who hasn't to my knowledge been in bankruptcy.
I don't know why they think it'll work with this retard.
