Well, you, or someone you know personally, probably has, at some point, actually attended a public school, so yes, you have far more experience in the field than Devos, who has lived her life in a billionaire's bubble.

She fucked up Detroit worse than it was. That's either abject failure or outright malice.

Judging by what DeVos has said and her history, malice is my take.
 
It's amazing that anyone would stick up for her. This goes beyond party lines. She's genuinely NOT qualified and her hearing couldn't have gone much worse.

and education is one of those things that a politician will NEVER say "yea things are going pretty well." there will always be someone trying to fix things, even if theyre not broken.

right now, a majority of public schools in many states are funded in large part by LOCAL property tax. surely everyone can see the problem with that.

charter schools and school choice are a good thing, i think. the way that it is being done, though, and the corruption involved is not a good thing. its largely being done for profit. charter schools literally siphon money away from public schools, and then when the public schools fall apart, the charter lobbied politicians point the finger and say "see! public schools fail!"

Honestly, that would probably be better than Devos' plans. But you need a Dept. of Education to handle federal funding.

Right now, education is mostly funded at state and local levels, but the federal government helps states fund districts with high needs and little ability to pay, so that those districts don't fall wholly on the states, which would wreck a lot of state budgets.

fair enough. so youre ok with a state like california teaching evolution as fact? what if they began incorrectly teaching in history courses that all southern whites were slave owners?

I have no issues if all leftists propaganda and indoctrination was removed from public education by force under the banner of national security. There's a reason most leftists have ended up on a wall after the nationalists of the country they were trying to destroy wake up.
