Most marijuana supporters aren't part of pothead culture anymore than most drinkers are part of binge drinking culture or "smoke 3 packs a day culture" or "I eat McDonalds 12 times a week culture".

I don't think it should be heavily discouraged anymore than anything else that's not great for you. We don't heavily discourage football or any other risky activity. Why would we heavily discourage that? I'm all for the government making an official position that unhealthy activities aren't recommended, but I don't think they should criminalize it. I know too many successful people who smoke weed to ever fall into this trap that marijuana makes you lazy or dumb. It simply doesn't. Abusing it every hour of every day is bad, but so is eating donuts all day every day.

Smoking marijuana is definitely not great for you lungs. I'm sure smoking isn't great for your throat or mouth either. I'm sure it can cause inflation of the lungs and other issues, but I don't really think it's cancerous without evidence to show it is. As far as recreational entertainment goes, I think consuming marijuana in any other form than smoking, like edibles, are about as harmless as it gets though.
