The CCP will sometimes build hardware backdoors in the electronics build in China. Even in the stuff from large name brands with more oversight, just much more rarely. Electronic circuits are so small these days that a USB-C cable can contain espionage hardware. A company involved in cybersecurity prototyped a model to showcase how easy it was.

So from a national security perspective, allowing electronics to free flow from China is an exposure vector that would have to be dealt with at some point. From a certain level of analysis anyway. Would have to be a decade-long endeavour. No clue what the Trump team is doing, very erratic. I wonder if they got concessions from US manufacturers before rolling back the tariffs. Like yeah you can manufacture there but I'll need you to monitor things more closely. That's maybe too logical.
