Tim Apple's $1 million bribe paying dividends.
Why? It’s the very people I’m speaking of.Considering how Republicans control all branches of government, I don't think thus is the flex you think it is.
There are two sides to this. It does remove some leverage from the White House in trying to pressure China into a one-sided deal, given these products are some of the most lucrative exports for the communist nation. On the other hand, this relieves what would have been one of the largest pain points for Americans had these tariffs stayed in place, and political capital matters in a fight like this.President Donald Trump’s administration exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from its so-called reciprocal tariffs, potentially cushioning consumers from sticker shock while benefiting electronics giants including Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.
The exclusions, published late Friday by US Customs and Border Protection, narrow the scope of the levies by excluding the products from Trump’s 125% China tariff and his baseline 10% global tariff on nearly all other countries.
Except they only beat them in NEV. Tesla was still winner in battery EV. They don’t do plug ins so it’s not comparable
Ah, I was speaking globally. Total cars BYD crushes them, but pure BEV, globally, Tesla barely edged out.NEV? as in hybrids?
This isn't true, While BYD sells a lot of hybrids in China, if you combine all their EVs alone you still beat Tesla.

What were the best-selling EVs in China during 2024?
China’s EV market ended 2024 strongly, as battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations improved, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) deliveries soared.autovista24.autovistagroup.com
He achieves whatever billionaires are whispering into his ear. This is why the tariffs were removed for products that would affect the tech industry in America.man this a further indication that trump really doesnt have a fucking clue as to whats going on
This a total fucking shit show
As Ontarios premiere Doug Ford said, he doesnt know what he wants to achieve on a day to day basis.
this was a well thought out post and I don't mean to crap on it because it seems better thought out than the entire Trump tariff policy.Trump Makes Big Tariff Move on China Overnight, Signals Where Things May Be Headed
A range of very consequential exemptions were made to President Donald Trump's 125 percent tariff on China late Friday night, and it's providing some clarity about where things are heading.
Specifically, the Customs and Border Patrol released a bulletin excluding smartphones, computers, computer parts, processors, and other electronics from the reciprocal tariffs.

What does this mean? I think it signals that we are looking for a compromise deal where both sides can claim a win compared to something resembling a decoupling from China for national security reasons. What the details of that look like, we'll have to wait to find out.
As to whether this is a good move or not, I don't have a strong opinion on it. I do believe that decoupling from China is a worthy goal, but there are also big red flags regarding the economy and the bond markets. Memes and sabre-rattling aside, if we don't have the hand to play right now, then the better move is to try to secure a win and look longer term, perhaps through capital investments to give companies the chance to leave China gradually.
I know some get mad when you say it, but the logistics and costs of manufacturing electronics in the United States just don't work for the most part, so American companies need time to move supply lines and manufacturing to low-cost alternatives. That could be India or some of the Southeast Asian countries, with whom we are expected to secure very friendly trade deals.
In short, if the Trump administration doesn't feel like this is the time to go full-bore at China, then I can't fault them for that. American consumers aren't just numbers on a piece of paper. They are real people, and being strategic to limit the damage to them and the broader economy is a good, not a bad, thing. If people want to describe that as Trump "changing his mind," so be it. It doesn't really matter. Just do what makes the most sense.
Trump is a puss, everyone should have known, as I predicted, that he wasn’t going to hold true to any real long term move which caused pain.this was a well thought out post and I don't mean to crap on it because it seems better thought out than the entire Trump tariff policy.
In basically 10 days, he tariffed the entire world, raised the tariffs on China to ridiculous levels blaming them because they had the nerve to fight back, fake paused the tariffs on Monday saying that the press reporting they were mulling a 90 day pause was "Fake News". Put out a potentially market manipulating "truth" on Wednesday then put on a 90 day pause, all while claiming 100's countries, including China, wanted to make deals. But no deals have been struck and his Elon is calling his Peter dumber than a sack of bricks and a moron in public which I happen to agree with.
He now rolls back the tariffs on the most important items, late on a Friday presumable to hide the further caving. All that does is help the tech billionaires while hurting the small time importers and exporters.
If you were going to declare a trade war on the world, don't you think you would put more thought into the planning and implementation than @Beechwood, or @HOLA , or @Seano does into a post on a karate sub forum's subforum?
Don't you think you'd have a plan that lasted more than a few days without major changes?
Oh and while we're at this, Mexico didn't pay for the wall, he didn't solve the Russian war on the Ukraine before he took office, he is currently trying to prosecute his Nixon-like "Enemies" list for things like treason because they hurt his feewings by writing mean stuff about him, he hasn't turned Palestine into a golf resort, he is deporting supposedly innocent people to el salvador and not bringing them back once the mistake is found, his head of DOD signal chats classfied war plans with journalist without knowing it, he seems to want to invade Greenland, and he didn't deport millions on day 1 and now wants to keep the ag workers and strangely the hotel workers but we're not supposed to believe that is because he has employed illegals for years in his shitty hotels, he is a felon, a sexual assaulter, twice impeached, a cheater, a notorious liar, etc and so forth, yet some will piss on your head and tell you it isn't Trump getting his jollies....
In short, your post was a shit ton better than his tariff planning and you should not forgive that kind of incompetence.
LMAO @ high end tech used primarily for entertainment getting catered to. Not only is it a giant back pedal caving to China & vastly easing any pressure on them, but it also prioritizes billionaire tech giant's needs over the everyday consumer or small buisness. They literally have morons convinced that their precious luxury items like Iphones & Teslas are more of a need & priority than everyday consumer products & their 401ks. Amazing.

What aspects of electronics do you think are built in China exactly? Past panels, it's not much. The CCP will sometimes build hardware backdoors in the electronics build in China. Even in the stuff from large name brands with more oversight, just much more rarely. Electronic circuits are so small these days that a USB-C cable can contain espionage hardware. A company involved in cybersecurity prototyped a model to showcase how easy it was.
So from a national security perspective, allowing electronics to free flow from China is an exposure vector that would have to be dealt with at some point. From a certain level of analysis anyway. Would have to be a decade-long endeavour. No clue what the Trump team is doing, very erratic. I wonder if they got concessions from US manufacturers before rolling back the tariffs. Like yeah you can manufacture there but I'll need you to monitor things more closely. That's maybe too logical.
Yet all of his base in those areas will sell this as "brilliant." Literally created a giant self induced penalty & problem. Realized it literally hurts his corporate donor class & cronies the most. Then rolled it back with his tail tucked immediately.Smartphones, computers, chips, as well as other electronic devices and components, including semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel TV displays, flash drives, memory cards and solid-state drives are now exempt from Tariffs.
He just fucked the Midwest and flyover states hard.
