Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

Most of it's in effect, yes.

His admin is already saying "BUT 50 COUNTRIES HAVE COME TO THE TABLE" which is Idiot for: "we're going to start repealing tariffs ASAP and claim wins at the negotiating table".

They're bound to overlook some really fucking important trades though.
What's the point of this all then if he's going to backtrack every time? Is he just telling his buddies to buy low so they can make money off the stock market?

He'll fold.

Trump's a terrible businessman, but essentially a massive pussy with thin skin.

He'll withdraw every possible tariff he can possibly withdraw by Friday, but there will still be untold damage from the tariffs he cannot afford to withdraw per his ego.

It won't undo the damage or fix shit.

It doesn't matters if they go away, the damage will only be fixed when they take away the president ability to set tariffs unilaterally.

Otherwise who would plan around American Putin's word? nobody, Canada and Mexico are the perfect example of that, they negotiated a trade deal with Trump and Trump just ignored it

I think we're off piste, to be honest. I don't know what the logic is.

Some richers might benefit, but plenty of his circle are gonna lose money right now.

You can't make money like this unless someone significant is getting shafted.

I'd hope any responsible European leader would deal with the (almost certainly) incoming Democrat government with a very large pinch of salt.

You aren't making deals with the incoming government or government incumbent, you're also going to have try to account for the next batch of utter fucking lunatics the retarded right in America vote in next time.

For all anyone knows it could be Andrew Tate or Triple H, they're that demented.

In my 20 years of covering the Asian stock market, this is one of the biggest continuous market sell-off the region is experiencing.

Japan, South Korea, Australia are in a sea of red for a third day, while investors in China where the market was closed for a public holiday on Friday are experiencing what they described as an ugly Monday.

This shows that investors are increasingly concerned - not just the US economy - but about the prospect of the global economy falling into a recession.

It takes an enormous shock to trigger that, with the Covid pandemic and the global financial crisis being the most recent causes.

Well done, Republican voters.

Get yours.

You voted in a global financial crisis of ineptitude.

They're doing the meme they once made fun of. "You'll own nothing and be happy."

Been seeing a lot of right-wingers say accept a shitty economy so we can take our country back. It's just wild how much they completely flip their positions as soon as orange man does something.

I'll be real, I don't even want to be a manufacturing country. They mostly suck. Shitty child labor laws, more pollution, less regulations, etc. I like my cheap stuff from other countries. I like having choices. Maybe that makes me not a real American but whatever.

Consider moving abroad?

If the UK was openly telling me "we don't wanna be a service economy anymore, back to the factories", I'd take my family and leave, frankly.

Thing is the US population is so split that even should a democrat win in 2028 it'd be at most like 53% of the vote and I'm not sure it'd be even that much. That means 47% or so would have still voted for this. So as a country/company: Would you make long term investments/plans dependent on a country with a schizo population that might just give us Trump Jr or a Candace Owens/Tucker Carlsen or some other loony after 4 years? Fuck no!

I'm too invested in the states. I have a two year old daughter and we live in a pretty good school district. All the doctors are close and the neighborhood is safe. Things would have to get really really bad for us to even consider that. Things like the protests give me hope and seeing how much support Bernie still has. I think there's enough people in this country that will fight back. 2026 will be a big year if they don't try to rig elections.

I can’t wait to see 70 year old men bagging my groceries because Trump melted their 401k’s.

Why would any 70 year old have any sort of meaningful market exposure???

As a market watcher and investor, how could you not have seen this coming? Scott Bessent was openly discussing tariffs back in November, framing them as tools for ensuring free and fair trade while touting his "3-3-3" economic model. Throughout Trump’s campaign, he consistently highlighted tariffs as the cornerstone of his economic agenda—how often did he repeat his promise to reshape U.S. trade policy? It was a central theme. Stephen Miran, Trump’s economic advisor during the campaign, even published "A User’s Guide to Restructuring the Global Trading System" in 2024, laying out the vision. Then, on February 13, 2025, the Presidential Memorandum on the "Fair and Reciprocal Plan" for trade was officially released on whitehouse.gov.

You might argue you didn’t anticipate the full extent of the tariff implementation, and fair enough, I suppose. But I’m stunned you didn’t see this on the horizon. Are you one of those crypto traders who only thrives in a bull market? This has been glaringly obvious—practically shouting at you—for over a year. And now you’re left complaining about the fallout.

Tbh, I have not been actively watching the market the last 3 months as I was changing jobs. By the time I started looking again, it was too late. By no means did I lose everything, but I’m down about 270k overall in my portfolio.

Like you say: fuck no.

I'd try my businesses everywhere else first, America last right now, and unless it's an internet-based business or someone already invested, the US will start missing out.
