Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

Hmmm Russia and Israel got hit hard...that goes against a lot of the narratives here.

That's another thing nobody's saying here.

He tariffed basically everyone but Russia, Iran, Belarus, NK, etc.

Why?

There's basically nothing to tariff right now. Trade between your country and Russia is practically non existent. In January last year your exports to Russia had dropped by 91% and imports by 85%.

This isn't a conspiracy theory, there are just already a mountain of sanctions on Russian in place.

Final note: I believe 10% is the minimum tariff regardless. If a country is not listed on his chart, it's still getting 10%.

Let's be honest. We can tariff them to the point that any trade means they pay America for the privilege, and we get all of the benefits. Which Russia will do, just to be at the table.

Which is what a bunch of idiots here are saying we should do to our allies.

You can tariff them, but I am just pointing out that there's so many sanctions that it'd be pragmatically meaningless. Perhaps it could have some symbolic purpose, but that'd be it.

PS I am Australian so are meant to be one of your allies.

It add a large tariff to any country that does buy from Russia which in theory acts a deterrent. But yeah, hard to tariff countries you're not actively trading with

Pragmatically and practically, the symbolic tariffs would show that we mean even more business than before.

Since we're combining to a 50% tariff on China, we're technically hurting Russia's lifeline, so it'd make even more sense.

I don't think Trump understands alliances and geopolitics very well.

the irony of your post is stunning. mind-boggling.

you do realize that Trump led a populist insurgence into the White House based on the premise that "experts" were to blame for the predicament?

your messiah is actually the dictionary definition of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action

He's not though, that's the bad part.

He just sees marks he can take advantage of. Dude is a rich carny.

They openly talked about purposely crashing the economy. Elon specifically brought it up multiple times before the election.

Market crash = cheap assets

Cheap assets = multiplied wealth for these people after somebody fixes the economy.

It's by design.

Ironically that 50% tariff on China might be some of the hardest impacts on us in Australia, since our resources sector is so prevalent and China is the largest trading partner for that.

I don't think he respects alliances at all. I don't think he respects soft power. I think he just wants to take whatever he can get away with, though it will likely come at some cost.

They will blame the liberals for being "weak on China" despite the Trump administration actively dismantling our entire system of soft power

Tbf - your soft power in Africa isn't as noticed as China's. No one cares that kids weight maybe a few percentages better or disease rates are a few points lower when they've got flashy new soccer stadiums
