Eh, no they aren’t. I understand your point, but the economy and prices were bigger issues than economic policies or even the border. But the problem we have now is much bigger than that; in a world where Americans hadn’t lost their damn minds and the government functioned like it should, Trump should either have never been POTUS or should’ve been impeached, removed, and barred from holding public office years ago. He should be in a courtroom facing his other 60 felonies right now.
Yes, we may have still lost to the GOP in 2024, but we wouldn’t be dealing with this crazy shit (I hope).

We’re in this mess for much deeper reasons: a lot of Americans have been swept up in a populist, nationalist movement, conservative media has finally succeeded in becoming pervasive and keeping their viewers/listeners in a bubble, the Right has become really slick with pseudo-intellectual style messaging that substitutes for actual learning and knowledge…
This isn’t a thing that would’ve gone away if we’d had a different immigration policy or something. We have really serious issues in this country that are deeper than that.

Agreed, and those are the usual kinds of reasons people get attracted to those types of movements. Although I think the part about money being broken—e.g., having trouble buying houses, cars, saving for retirement, putting oneself through college—is broken because trickle down economics broke it. Like, repeatedly. Like other past nationalist movements, Trump champions the policies that caused the problem but scapegoats immigrants and others for it as if they’re the cause.

I don’t know that Dems’ actual views and policies on social issues are as big an issue as the Republicans have blown them up to be, but there’s obviously a few that are unpopular.

I think the absurd nature of them is extremely easy for the republicans to exploit. Just taking the trans issue head on. All of a sudden a man can be a woman. At no point was anyone raised to believe that so it’s easy to point and say “look how crazy they are”.

Money is broken due to that, unchecked wealth distribution and unchecked money printing.
