Slide trump some cash, gut the agencies investigating him or his businesses, get some government funding and be out.

Trump makes a habit of surrounding himself with people who he can blame shit on or take the fall for him
Trump hires Elon to do all his DOGE bullshit, Elon pisses everyone off in the process but gets at least some of what Trump wants done.
Elon becomes the lightning rod for all of the heat for DOGE, then when he leaves the position Trump moves to undo some of that stuff to save face, and further blame Elon for what went wrong.
in the future if someone questions him about stuff related to that he can further pin the blame on Elon.
its a classic Trump move and he keeps doing it; but no one who tries to get close to him seems to understand this

I think his circle knows this at this point, its got to be the gamble or thrill of pay off

I think the MAGA Powers are in tact. Musk choosing his targets carefully. Keeping it solely about congressional republicans. Nobody minds making Mike Johnson their whipping boy. I think he’s just doing whatever he can to get as much cut as possible before it ultimately passes with minor cuts.

His lack of specifics gives the game away. It’s just all about the number.


Like Trump, Musk takes the maximalist approach to most things. When the bill ultimately passes he will move on. Maybe primary some squishes but that’s all well and good. I hoped he would do that anyway

If he rattles the wrong cage, we will surely hear about it from Trump himself.

Musk had to have known Trump isn’t a Koch style libertarian. He doesn’t mind spending. Maybe not as much as democrats but Trump is a lower case b big government guy.

He’s allowed DOGE to run roughshod not as some Cato Institute fantasy come to life but because Trump views the bureaucratic state as overwhelmingly left wing and wanted to rattle, weaken, and irreparably damage them. Some areas successfully but they still have another year to go.

Musk trying to take the “Big” out of Big Beautiful Bill. If Trump says something is going to be BIG. Then you don’t tell him that Big is bad.
