It wasn't to the US detriment when they HAD strong militaries. It made us globally that much stronger bud which creates more stability. Especially with the UN in its state... I'd say this is more important than ever. What happens if China decides to take back Taiwan. It can't be just a US threat. Europe needs to be strong and a force for negotiations globally. You can't do that with a weak military.
Yep, Europe needs to ramp up their military, and from the statements from their leaders since yesterday, they clearly know they must. I'm glad you brought up Taiwan, because that crossed my mind earlier as well. That is going to be a huge headache. Thankfully chip productions is being ramped up in the U.S. (thank you President Biden for the Chips Act ;)). Weaning off dependence of Taiwan is important. It will be very difficult to keep Taiwan out of China's hands indefinitely. Maybe we should send them a bunch of nukes.

Intel also just recently pushed back the date of their new manufacturing facility in Ohio to 2030/2031. Don't worry, we'll be great again any year now.

Zelensky doesn't wear a suit and tie to have a meeting with the president and vice president. He believed he could bully Trump and Vance which ended badly for him.

I love Taiwan. Been there 4 times and was engaged to a girl from there. Beautiful country. It will be hard to hold China back. They are an 800lb gorilla unfortunately. I don't know what happens in that event. Strong military is important but likely ww3 to start something with China. Guessing trading sanctions are the route as 1.5T goes to EU, US (1T) and Asian countries. I'm glad on the chips act as well.

The reality is it takes years to build up a military force but def a good thing if they have one.

So, Trump and fucking Elon killed it. Nice going, MAGA.

Hmmm....tough one.

"Shut up and give us your minerals or we'll happily let you die at the hands of a lunatic dictator that fucks my wife while I watch."

Who doesn't fvck his wife? 🤔🤨

Putin is 10x the threat especially with their alliance with China. That duo makes a strong opponent. There is a reason no country engages directly with either.
Russia and China have an alliance with each other against the United States since 1950”s . That won’t stop the Trump cult using phrases like ( Trump Haters ) when they have nothing intelligent to say they can’t actually form a proper argument because as I stated bf , stupid people just don’t know they’re stupid and you’ll usually find many if they are going to bat for Trump .

JD Vance's job is to sit there and be a tubby, friendless loser. Not to lecture actual heads of state
I’d have more respect for him if he actually dressed like he did behind closed doors ( crossdresser) . That’s why he also has permanent eyeliner under his eyes just look ? 👠

Both came off pretty bad. Zelensky lost it for me when he implied Russia will invade the US next unless we help him retake all of his lost land. The little turd should have worked out a peace deal years ago.

It's unfortunate because it was really only like the last 5 minutes of a good one hour press conference.

He didn't say that. He said, "During the war, everybody has problems, even you. But you have a nice ocean and don't feel [it] now, but you will feel it in the future." What Zelensky was saying that if left unchecked, the ramifications will be felt in the U.S. more than it is being felt now. You're being disingenuous if that is the comment you are referring to.

When did he say that?

People hear what they want to hear.

The whole reason why Ukraine has been supported is because the West doesn't want to normalize military aggression and land grabbing without a consequence for its geopolitical foes. It's not done merely out of "good-will" towards Ukraine but rather as a preventative measure in the global chess game that's being played between the East and the West.

Countries like China, Iran, North Korea, etc. have observed the situation intently and are taking notes about what the costs to Russia are going to be. If they get away with it by just having spilled some blood, other dictatorships may find it more acceptable to follow their example. We know there are plenty of countries out there that are entertaining territorial expansion, it's just the fear of retribution by the U.S. and its allies that keeps them in check.

What ramifications is an ocean preventing now but won't prevent in the future?
