I think the real story here is Trump is feeling under attack because he's on the Epstein list, and it's triggering him because he's remembering being persecuted for being a Russian asset - which he has been, for quite some time.

He's not a Russian asset. He's a guy that has admired Putin and wanted to do business in Moscow. When Russians made contact to help with the election the whole crew were gung ho. We can say that as soon as he denied wanting any business dealings in Russia, while he was campaigning, it compromised him immediately.
