When I say E. Europe, I am talking about Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Estonia, etc.

People think Trump is a compromised Russian agent or some shit, but he just really likes dictators. He consistently is nicer to and about strongmen than he is democratic allies. He's impressed and intimidated by them. He's probably quite annoyed that pesky checks and balances prevent him from being one.

While I think most of the media hysteria regarding Trump is overblown disinformation, I have no doubt that he admires guys like Putin, Kim, Netanyahu, the Sauds, etc.
