Law Trump pardons blackwater murderers and crooked politicians

This didn't surprise me and we shouldn't be surprised if more are coming. Not to mention all of the stuff that's not going to make the news.

This guy is committed to proving just how corrupt and self-serving he truly was. Not that it will matter, the sycophants will just lap this shit up.
Not that Trump can catch any legal heat for exercising his Presidential powers, but do you think the more he acts so brazenly morally corrupt puts an even bigger target on his head in the months after he re-enters civilian life?

The way I see it is he could have dodged some nastier charges on the basis of his popularity, but with the current court cases in the state of NY, to me he's just making it easier for them to throw the book at him since he's acting in a way that will lower his public support.

By the way, these pardons could very well incense terrorist organizations to commit a terrorist act in retribution. This pardoning has no merit and plenty of risk.

This is Trump doing what he can to keep his name in the news.

I'm sure. I don't think he's really grasping just how much things have changed since becoming POTUS, in terms of what that exposes him to. He's "in the moment", doing things that make him feel better about things, regardless of longer term consequences. He's spent so many years not facing any real consequences for his actions that he's probably certain that he can weather this as well.

For all we know, he might be right.

What benefit would he possibly be getting by pardoning some of these folks?

Profits from Blackwater or other investment like benefits?

This is going to be the trigger? Not killing Al-Baghdadi? Not killing Solemani? Not letting bin-Salman be a psycho? Not helping fund the atrocities in Yemen?

Sure...

Do you condone someone killing 17 iraqi civilians? Cause you're supporting the release of someone who did just that

Except that's not the whole story. I suggest you read up on it. It's not as cut and dry as you want it to be.

I don't think it's about personal profit. It's more about giving the system the one finger salute on his way out.

Some were witch hunts. Low level fish. Trump is who you want dont punish the smaller guys. The soldiers were in war and snapped or took out some bad guys and got carried away. Forgiveness is needed.

Bush Jr should be in jail over them

This is a pretty disgusting position to take

Doesn't every President do a load of questionable pardons on their way out.
It's a stupid power anyway. Should be abolished. There's an appeals process in the courts to right wrongful convictions.
The ability to unilaterally pardon is the kind of thing you'd expect a King or a Dictator to have in a banana Republic.

Exactly. These dopes actually think they know all the information, evidence, facts... Such smug worm heads
What was the motivation for the pardon and what were the indicators that he deserved it?

After their trial in 2014, Ronald Machen Jr, the US attorney for the District of Columbia, said: “These Blackwater contractors unleashed powerful sniper fire, machine guns, and grenade launchers on innocent men, women, and children. Today they were held accountable for that outrageous attack and its devastating consequences for so many Iraqi families.”

@Joe maybe call them what they are in the thread title: war criminals.

But do we know all the facts? Set them loose.
