Drone strikes on what exactly? These cartles are spread all over Mexico, have more military hardware than mexican military itself and are loaded with more money than some small nations.

you would have to carpet bomb the whole country in order to do any kind of damage against cartels - even taking into custody cartel leaders, means that new leaders will emerge to take their place.

The ONLY way to deal with illegal drug trade from Mexico (or any other country really) is for US to legalize all drugs, so you cut off part of cartels income and any need to grow/make drugs.
This is what happened when weed was legalized in some US states - cartels lost part of their income and instead of having US dealers importing drugs from Mexico, people just bought US grown weed.

But this all makes too much sense, and Trump admin is more akin to just bombing the shit out of everything thinking that solves issues.

The war on drugs is fucking bullshit. There’s a demand to get high among living organisms that is impossible to eliminate. Decriminalization and regulation is the only solution, but endless wars is always the option we go with.

Ultimately it’s a war on people and personal freedom
