Crime trump executive order cartels terrorists.

Its worse than that; Mexico's entire GDP from drugs is estimated at 5-20 percent depending on what year the study comes out...cause how the fuck can you estimate it...but its a significant part of the economy...

I'm not advocating for war with Mexico...that for the Trump twats to salivate at

I mean, if you support this EO, you may very well end up supporting war.

It authorizes the deployment of all reserves. If they actually do start raiding cartels, they're going to fight back.

What do you think we should do to people who hang 7 year old girls upside down after gang raping her and cutting her in half with a chainsaw while her family watches?

Probably something a little less obvious so they don't start cutting our 7 year old girls in half.

Jesus Christ what a wuss. Better not make them mad huh? We should have professionally trained people who maybe specialize in burning down and killing people like that.

If that's how they go about most of it that would sound pretty surgical to me wouldn't it to you?
Special operations has been active in South Americans Allegedly Mexico for a long time now fighting cartels. It’s too big of a job for them if your goal is to wipe out the cartels.

Which brings me to the issue I actually have with this announcement and thread- no one is really thinking about how this would be accomplished. Personally I do see this happening without occupying cities with a lot of troops. This would inevitably lead to collateral damage given the nature of this problem. How much is hard to say. If the military was there, would the cartels lose their grip on people? Would people flip on them? Or would they view the US as invaders?

I doubt there’s any serious plans to do anything. It’s a big task. There’s a lot of demands on the military right now that is struggling to get recruits and is undermanned for its current mission.

Ok, so we'll just let them keep cutting 7 year old girls in half after gang raping them and also every once in awhile, let them kill American tourists

No? Where did I say that? Do you know what the word obvious means?

That's not the reason you're going in, the reason is the drugs. There are unspeakable crimes being committed against children in multiple countries around the world and America hasn't considered involving itself in them.

The difference is they're right next door, they've killed Americans, they're funneling drugs into the country and they're funneling illegals into the country. They're connected directly to the problems of the US.

Yes and those are the reasons you're going after them, not because you're on a child saving crusade.

Obviously if you save children in the process then that's great but I think you should be realistic about the reasons you're going in.

This proclamation only has teeth if they plan to send in a lot troops into mexico. They should proclaim colombians terrorists too and invade colombia or else that narco problem will not die.

Idk, this shit seems pretty dumb.

Basically turning an import/export issue into an actual multi-generational war on our border. Giving Russia a run for its money, I'm sure China is delighted. Two rivals fighting forever wars in their backyards while they're just chilling.

Could have at least taken a few weeks the declare this, there's no way the military is ready for such an operation overnight. Just giving the cartels time to prepare.

I don't think it will be anything like on the scale of Ukraine. America has no intention of invading, much less occupying, parts of Mexico. If this happens, it will be surgical strikes against HVT's. The USA almost always wins the actual fighting. It's regime change and nation building they suck at. To be fair, so does everyone else. That's one of the reasons Afghanistan and Vietnam have such a record of making bigger, stronger nations tap to strikes. And that includes the British Empire, back when we raped, pillaged and burned our way across a quarter of the entire planet. And made China into our crack-whore.

Ah, the Good Old Days! ;)

Now, do I think this will drastically reduce the amount of drugs coming over the Border? Of course not. The insane profits of the drugs trade - over 5 Billion dollars in Europe alone - means no matter how many Cartel members you kill, there will always be someone else to take their place. But I'm also not seeing much of a downside. A lot of very bad people get taken off the board, and elite military and intelligence units get to practice on a firing range with living targets. Which helps keep their skills sharp for when a real war breaks out.

Agreed. As I pointed out in another post, this won't be another Operation Enduring Freedom. It will be targeted strikes by Drones and Spec Ops Units against High Value Targets - the senior Cartel leadership.

The concern is the government deciding unilaterally someone is a terrorist which gives them permission to deny them their civil rights.

There are obvious bad guys who deserve to be done in. The concern is when people are in a gray area or falsely accused there’s no due process
Hey was wondering, is it your wife in the AV and the other dude from that argument thread made it his AV as well, or is it the other way around, I don‘t remember LOL.

This is incredibly optimistic, the cartels are several times wealthier then Ukraine was in peace time. This isn't some walk in the park.

This isn't going to be happening two oceans away so the consequences won't be our problem. The refugees will be coming here. The reprisals will be happening on our own soil. The fight will take longer than a single president's term, if it ever stops.

As I understand it, closing the Border is a major focus of Trump's, so the refugees are going to have a hard time getting into the US.

I'm sure some of the cartels will try to fight. But they will be outgunned. And this isn't a struggle for national survival. If the US assassinate a cartel leader, his replacement won't be too bothered about avenging him. Especially since that's how he got the promotion in the first place. Any attempt to kill American civilians will be met with even more severe punishment.

"The drone strike that accidently killed not only the cartel leader but his entire family during his daughter's birthday party? A terrible tragedy that only happened due to faulty intelligence. What's that? No of course it wasn't revenge for the sicaro's crossing the border and shooting US citizens at random a couple of weeks ago. How could you even ask such a question?" 😈

The Cartels are businessmen. They will invest heavily in security to protect themselves, and they will keep sending drugs into the US. What they won't do is pick a fight they can't possibly win.
