Opinion Trump and the UFC - Neutral Take...

I think this is a good read. Yet, even if a relatively small minority of the workers, viewers, and fighters in the UFC are democrat leaning, this was needlessly polarizing. I seriously had a friend tonight who walked out of the fights, and said he's done with the UFC. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people, who feel very strongly politically, would take such stances. It seems needlessly confrontational and taking one side of a very divisive issue.
Your friend throwing a tantrum like a child...sounds very mature.

This thread is very much not neutral lol. Tell yourself that though.

I think no sports organization or league should actively campaign, let alone propagandize, in favor of any political figure, party, or position.

Where is the non-neutrality?

you didn't vote... 🤦‍♂️

Yes, I do think there is a place for that position, when one is truly objecting to the available options of the constituency. But that's not the point. This is not about me.

This argument works in a horizontal labor market, which MMA is not.
Well tough luck then. They are supposed to fight and not to care who is watching. And if 80 % of the audience it MAGA, then that comes with the territory.

I mean you are not wrong. That's the situation they are in. I am saying, they shouldn't be put in that situation.

Those are your thoughts. Athletes across various sports through time have made political statements. Think most UFC fighters understand that there's a male restroom and a women's restroom and are not offended by a President who knows that...opposed to an entire party that keeps telling us otherwise.

I almost didn't vote myself, but felt like I should and I did. I hear you, but no Trump there's probably no UFC right now. You understand that? Before the Politics had anything to do with anything. You love UFC, you could remove your emotions and be thankful for that at least.

And if he showed up to a (insert Team Here) game that would be different? How? He can't/shouldn't come to a UFC Fight? or any other sporting event/public event WTF? Harris Win or Lose shouldn't go to a sporting event with her friends/constituents? why not? if Trump/Harris/Old Joe want to go to sporting events/concerts/theater fucking let them..... what pissing and moaning is this....

A neutral take from me is that the UFC objectively looks like a shitty, clownish product these days and I wonder where they're going to be when they lose their diehard base, because I don't think they actually have a casual one. This is always going to be a niche sport and trust this, piss off diehards enough and they will eventually bounce. They're making hard inroads on this. I'm not there yet, but I'm about halfway. I've had espn+ for years and I'm done with that. It bears no value.

And yes, taking a political stance in the entertainment industry is straight up retarded, it's flat out leaving money on the table no matter which side you're leaning to. The thing is, the brass at the UFC like any good corporation eat well so they don't really give a shit. They're not trying to be giants, they only want enough for themselves and they couldn't give a fuck if Don Frye fights Sam Elliott for the Best Mustache Belt.

I totally get what Trump did for the UFC, so there's an implicit debt. And I am also totally in favor of athletes, and the managers like Dana, giving explicit support for a political view. What I think is an issue is when you use an entire platform where hundreds of people work and compete, and who are the show, made to stand behind a message leveraged by the company without their consent.

You are either not reading, or do not know how to read. I think it's perfectly fine for Trump to attend, and for them to show him among the celebrity snapshots they do routinely.

People voted for him he's the President. If Biden liked UFC he could've gone too.

And that is perfectly fine. Nobody is saying political figures should not attend sporting events, or be shown in celebrity snapshots. Did you even read?

Dana, Hunter, and everybody else in that company sees the benefits of being buddy buddy with the POTUS and all his pals. Losing some fans is nowhere near as big of a loss as what they can gain or favors they can get from such individuals in power.

Hes the president of the country at the end of the day. Its pretty sad that in this day and age having the president of your country at your events feels like some toxic political thing.

This is getting old...

I do not, and did not object to Trump being there, or the UFC giving him camera time.
