Rewatch Travis Browne has a pretty interesting record

nah, Overeem's always been able to ko everyone or be koed by everyone

Aside from 'punchers change' this is demonstrably not true at every stage of his career.

He gets busted for PEDS and is subsequently knocked out in 3 of his next 4 fights LMAO. Bigfoot, Browne and Rowthwell. These are not world beaters.

I can't even think of who the signature/elite KO wins Overeem has in the UFC? Probably Dos Santos after Cain mutilated him twice.

The two best guys he fought in the UFC in Stipe and Ngannou both murked him in the first round like he was a bum. Even contenders like Blaydes and Volkov.

Overeem doesn't beat elite guys almost as a rule.

He also KOed Hunt and TKOed Brock.

The upset with Overeem is only in the sense that people created a fantasy version of him that never existed.

Reem was getting knocked out left and right in Japan. He then gets ENORMOUS on steroids and puts together a series of wins against mostly unimpressive talent.

Comes to the UFC, looks good, fails the very first random PEDS test he takes. He then shrinks and resumes getting frequently knocked out, to the point you can give about 25% odds he's getting KO'd just because he is fighting.

you're forgetting a BIG piece of why people considered him a monster. he absolutely tooled Badr Hari in K-1 and then won the GP. that's mostly why everyone thought he was a beast. him wrecking all the MMA HWs was just par for the course, it was how he trashed K-1 and Badr Hari that really brought his hype up. i don't blame them, he legit looked like a world beater vs Hari.

Travis brown is why I don't ever buy into HW hype trains lol mfers acted like hev was the future of the division at one point rather than a footnote

he could've been the future, but he chose Ronda over being a good fighter. Edmund ruined what potential he had and turned him into a cookie cutter, wanna be boxer who wasn't good at boxing.

Brandon Vera was another prime example of this imo.

Brandon Vera was more wishful thinking than anything else. he's too small to fight the way he wants to fight at HW. somebody would've walked him down and battered him, and Rothwell did just that. Travis Browne had more potential because he had the size, was aggressive, had good timing, and was athletic.

That was a lot of words to type but they had not a lot to do with the original point.

I was referring specifically to the hype train that followed Vera when he debuted.

Oh yeah by the way if you look at 2024 anti doping website for the UFC, Travis Browne has been tested twice. Does that mean he’s still planning on fighting ?

Why wasnt he allowed to continue steroids? Jon did...

Overeem wasn't even busted by USADA or advanced testing.

He was blasting so much testosterone that he failed a regular test Nevada State Athletic Commission gave to all 8 heavyweight fighters who were part of the UFC's promotional event.

He was the only one who failed btw.

He also KOed Hunt and TKOed Brock.

LMAO Hunt has a losing UFC record.

Regional circuit guy like Sean McCorkle took out Hunt. Is this a joke?

Brock was coming off a horrific beating by Cain, then a year off from surgery. Not that it matters because he had like 5 career MMA fights.

Man that hurts to read when you write it like that. GOATREEM is still real to me dammit!

Reactions: mkt
and in the sense of how the fight was going

nah, Overeem's always been able to ko everyone or be koed by everyone: him becoming Ubereem didn't change a lot, only that in HW he could rely on his better fundamentals while retaining some of his speed, plus he went through hell in Pride lhw fighting and losing to Minotouro, Shogun and Arona in a row.
He fought a lot of killers and he's lost more matches that he was winning than he's won matches that he was losing.
Going from a LHW to a guy who cut from 280 with very little body fat was the biggest PED transformation the MMA world has seen. Skinny Overeem KO'd some smaller Japanese fighters, but lost to pretty much every quality fighter he faced (Shogun X 2, Arona, Liddell, etc.) He clearly benefited massively from roids. As soon as he got busted in the UFC, he got KO'd by Bigfoot, Rothwell and Browne--three guys Cain massacred (as I just mentioned in another comment).

<{outtahere}>
Goddamn. I feel like this is the most apt epithet you can write as Ubereem's epitaph.
I mean, the best words to put on his tombstone.

I remember the big cope after the Bigfoot fight. "Travis blew his hamstring, so that's technically a doctor stoppage!!" <lol>
The worst was people saying Werdum sucked and Browne would whoop him. Then after the fight saying Werdum looked like shit and that at least Browne would have a chance against Cain because of his KO power... Lol. The narrative even from Joe Rogan was Werdum had no chance against Cain, he said he'd gas out after the first 2 minutes..

Overeem was flagged for elevated test ratios in the ufc he never tested positive for a specific ped. He did get busted in 2023 by glory, but as far as I know they never released what the drug was he was using
