Without knowing specifically who you're talking about, I'd say yeah some things could be considered as holding women back. People who throw abortion in there, meh. There are women against abortion too, and that issue in particular has a lot of reasons that people are on each side.

The bigger picture is that the word "conservative" covers a wide swath. I consider myself conservative, and I'm damn sure not anti-woman. I have a wife and daughter and I want them to have every opportunity that men do in our society. And none of that means I should be okay with biological males competing against biological women in sports.

That's a problem with those using mental illness as an insult, not in defining someone who thinks they are the opposite gender of their sex as having one.

Mental illness is not funny, it shouldn't be an insult, and nobody should hate trans people or belittle them. That is FAR different than just saying "Welp, that person with a penis says they're a woman so that's what they are!"

You can be compassionate and courteous and at the same time not play make believe and pretend a cat is a dog or a tree is a rock or a woman is a man.

Understanding trans people exist and treating them with courtesy is much different than changing things like sports to cater to it when there's very obvious reasons we separate sports by sex. If parents want to put their kids on hormone blockers to delay puberty, who are you to tell them they shouldn’t? It is a parents decision, not the state and not yours.

for most kids and teens, gender affirming care is a social transition, hormone blockers typically start early to mid teens under the supervision of a medical team (not your business to judge)
HRT for example, starts mid-late teens when on the verge of adulthood - again under care of licensed Docs
