Training Methods of the Old-time Boxers

This thread made me want to join boxing again. Then it got derailed...

If a lat pull down machine was chest height, you couldn't do lat pull downs with it, making it's name a misnomer/wrong. Unless, of course, you decreased chest height, perhaps by sitting on the floor or something.

or you're 8 foot tall.

our gym has a weights section in the same building, i was in there with some of the other guys once before and someone who'd came back for a week after touring europe (fighting) got in the cable cross over and started throwing punches with the resistance. no idea how beneficial it is.

This would be better if it was posted in boxing or standup subforum, imo. Interesting subject tho.

You can go ahead an eat some dry toast for a month and report back your results.

It looks like the old timers trained more muscle endurance and compound exercises than the modern boxers. Also for a time bodybuilding style lifting gained some popularity in sports in general. I think as people become more educated in the eastern european training models we are going to see fighters not as bloated looking.
