Movies TOP GUN 3 in the works!

That’s the right attitude
Probably, you can get some stuff which takes ages to come to screen which is damaged by it, scripts you can tell have been fucked around with and re fucked around with by execs for the sake of it BUT I think you also have a lot of more recent blockbusters were the scripts feel rushed, like they would have been a decent first draft but needed to be tightened up a lot.

Maverick I think felt like a film which had the proper amount of work put into the script. I mean its not exactly a complex plot but its told in a way which is very well focused, gives us what we need for the central drama and nothing more.

Can anyone explain the appeal of topgun maverick? I tought i was a horrible movie. It was one big cliche. Even for US standards.

I'd love to see Days of Thunder 2 more than this

Robert Duvall is still here for a cameo. After a successful Hall of Fame career, Cole is retired and a crew chief for a young struggling driver. Cole's rebellious anti-authoirty nature keeps him working on smaller, lower funded teams. His driver gets injured and without a good showing at Daytona they're going to lose the team. Cole set the record most Daytona 500 Wins in his career and nobody knows the track better than him. Reluctantly, he climbs back in the car for one more race.

Yeah that's kinda the plot of Days of Thunder in the firs place but who cares!

That's literally the plot of Driven.

Maverick was not great. They played it too safe. Even with the soundtrack. But it was well acted and looked appropriate on screen, which is all one can hope for in the 2020's.

If they are gonna make it better bring back spilt coffee guy. Only thing missing from Maverick. I was actually hoping for it as an extra during the end credits.

We need a gratuitous full frontal nude Phoenix shower scene. Then suddenly she has to get out of the shower and not put any clothes on and immediately pilot a UAV to kick some ass while outnumbered and save Mav and Rooster.
Stop Right There, I'm In.gif

Go on.

Is Phoenix returning?
No word yet but I find it hard to believe they wouldn't bring her back. She's a fan favorite. Tom Cruise is too smart to fuck over the audience like that.

I know the story is perfect as is but part of me wishes Maverick had a fling with her instead of Penny. Imagine Maverick bedding Phoenix.

Sounded like he wanted that in real life.

Top Gun 3 Script Is A Go As Director Teases "Ambitious Story" For Sequel - There’s ‘One Last Ride’ for Tom Cruise’s Return As Maverick

Top Gun 3 gets an exciting new update from returning director Joseph Kosinski, who addresses the script status and the story ideas that are in place. Coming 36 years after the original Top Gun, 2022's Maverick featured Tom Cruise back as the titular fighter pilot, this time to train a new batch of recruits for a dangerous mission. The film was a major hit critically and commercially, and Top Gun 3 was subsequently confirmed to be in development, with Kosinski returning and Cruise expected to reprise his role as Maverick for a third outing.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for F1: The Movie, which hits theaters on June 27, Kosinski reveals that Top Gun 3 is still in the script stage, with screenwriter Ehren Kruger currently hard at work. While Kosinski doesn't reveal any specifics about what's to come for Maverick or any other potential returning pilots, he does tease that the new story is a "big idea." Check out his comment below:

Ehren Kruger is writing the script as we speak. It’s a big idea that I spent almost a year developing — working with some friends at the Navy and Lockheed. And yeah, Ehren’s into it now, so we’ll see how it comes along.
Touching on why he's returning to the franchise once more after Maverick felt like such a perfect final note for the franchise, Kosinski stresses that what they have planned is "so ambitious" that he couldn't stay away:

It was about coming up with an idea that — again — felt like a new challenge. Something that opens up the story in a way you just can’t let go. And I think the idea is so ambitious. That’s what’s exciting to me.

With work still ongoing on the script, it may still be quite some time before viewers get to see what's next for Cruise's character after the Top Gun: Maverick ending. It could be many months before the script is in good enough shape for the film to actually move forward. Once the script is ready and deals are closed for Cruise and returning cast members like Glen Powell and Miles Teller, it will be scheduling that determines when filming can begin. If, for example, filming were to start late next year, Top Gun 3 could arrive in 2027 or 2028.

Cruise's busy schedule – and the schedules of other Top Gun: Maverick cast members – will impact the release timeline. In addition to a collaboration with director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Cruise has several other movies in the works. This includes a Doug Liman movie called Deeper, which follows an astronaut who has a terrifying encounter while on a deep sea dive, in addition to a World War II film called Broadsword, which will reunite the star with frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie. Cruise is also set to work with Liman on a movie that will film in outer space.

Director Joseph Kosinski has confirmed that Top Gun 3 is officially in the works. The film will bring Tom Cruise back as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for what is being described as the character’s final chapter.

Speaking with GQ UK, Kosinski revealed that the story is still being developed, with writer Ehren Kruger currently working on the script. He said the team has found a new direction for the story. “There’s still more story to tell for him. There’s one last ride. So we’re working on it now,” Kosinski said.

The director avoided revealing any major plot details but hinted that the new Top Gun film will revolve around a major turning point in Maverick’s life. “We’re thinking much bigger than… It’s a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it’s much bigger than himself. It actually… I’m trying to describe it without giving anything away. [Laughs] It’s an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we’re talking about,” Kosinski explained.

Third movie is often where things start to really go south. Hoping for some Rocky 3 stuff and not Beverly Hills Cop 3.
off course very few movies had 3rd movie being good not even terminator or predtor thrid movie was good. i mean what will be a plot for 3rd

Man, every time I rewatch the first TG, I always hope that Maverick calls Viper to fly with him. That would've been awesome.

Loved Maverick and I'm sure I'll love this when it comes out.

I've always wondered what Viper would have done when Maverick bails during the final fight.

I don't know if Maverick would've bailed. I think having Viper there, being someone who flew with his old man, would've given him a bit of confidence or accountability. I think it would've helped his sense of isolation after Goose died.

Someone needs to ask TC lol

I never thought of that. I just assumed he'd have still bailed. But I like your idea that Viper gives him what he needs in order to stay in the fight and never bail in the first place.

Yeah, only a handful of #3s seem to actually be any good. I'm not sure why that is. But I will have faith until there's a reason to not have faith.
