Speaking in an interview tied to his recently released Formula 1 film, Kosinski described the new project as an “ambitious story” designed to explore Maverick’s existential crisis, pushing the character further than ever before.

“We’ve talked a lot about how to honor Maverick’s legacy while giving audiences something they don’t expect,” Kosinski said. “This film will be bigger in scope but also more intimate in what it reveals about him.”

While plot specifics remain under wraps, multiple outlets, including The Hindustan Times and India Times, report that Top Gun 3 will focus on themes of mortality, purpose, and Maverick’s struggle to pass the torch to the next generation of pilots.

Ehren Kruger on Board​

Screenwriter Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote Maverick, has already drafted a script. He reportedly pitched the core story not long after the 2022 sequel premiered, calling it “a natural next step.”

Industry analysts suggest that the film could begin production by late 2025 or early 2026, though no release date has been confirmed.
