I applaud him trying to speak it. Not to be all "but what about this other unrelated person/topic", but I think dudes like Aldo would have had more crossover appeal / success if they tried to speak even a little English. As Khabib, Yoel, Anderson (and lately Khamzat) have shown, you don't have to be fluent to win people over - if anything, there's a kind of a mystique and a certain appeal to a fighter who speaks only a few words but uses them to great effect.

P.S. I am not a native English speaker so I can appreciate how hard it is to become fluent in a foreign language, especially as an adult. I can also say that a little effort goes a long way.

Portuguese is very different from Spanish and Portugal is not a province of Spain. Portuguese (PT) is different from Brazilian (BR) Portuguese, while we do understand each other perfectly, there are a lot of differences in words, how some are written and the accent.

lol Galician is NOT Portuguese. That is a VERY inaccurate thing to say.
It is widely accepted that both languages originated simultaneously and from the same source (a romance language, the previous language spoken in the northwest of the Peninsula was ultimately lost some time after the Cantabrian wars and latin was adopted) they diverged later on, with Galego creating its own grammar and also adapting words from Spanish and so on.
This is a sensible political issue in the peninsula as Galego is a recognized language and should not be considered neither Spanish nor Portuguese, even tho it shares a lot in common with both languages. Same with Catalán and Euskera (this one doesn't even have latin origins). All are proper languages and should not be considered a dialect or any other thing.
