TN state senator compares obamacare to holocaust

Yee was a front page CNN story under US and Politics. Other international stories led on the main splash page. He also had a lead link on Yahoo, which is how my wife knew about it.

Thanks for the heads up. Looking now I see they got around to it. When I search "senator yee" on all CNN results a few stories pop up, none of which are dated prior to the 8th of April. The guy was arrested (or so some reported) on March 26th. It was the indictment stories (on April 4th) that had me checking CNN again there was still nothing.

If it's true they took that long to run a story then I have to ask if you're generally satisfied with that level of immediacy of news coverage in the information age? If it's true that I don't know how to use CNN's site properly then my only defense is the search box is misleading. :)

I believe that they have already done just that in a few speeches. EDIT: I am calling it Jeb Bush will be the 2016 Republican nominee it just boggles the mind how people forget history.

obamacare is the new holocaust/kt extinction event

That's not true. And you know it. People just don't like being rightfully compared to lunatic statists and thus try to ridicule the notion.

Name me one time when that comparison was not ludicrously over the top in the last 20 years of US politics.

My question is:

Campfield, who is running for re-election this year, has a long history of controversial statements and legislative initiatives. In 2011, he was the sponsor of a failed bill that sought to ban teaching about gay issues in public schools. The next year, he drew fire after telling a satellite radio host that HIV and AIDS originated from a man having sex with a monkey and that it was nearly "impossible" for AIDS to be contracted through heterosexual sex.

who votes for sb like this?

I'm curious which you consider more scandalous since you sidestepped answering my very direct question about priorities.

I answered your question. People can talk about both stories. There are threads and news stories about Yee, but this isn't one of them (well, hacks have succeeded in diverting it to being partly about him, but you know what I mean).

What do you think about the comments the TS was referring to? Agree? Disagree? Media should have covered them up? What?

I think there's a fairly significant difference between the two cases... Seeing parallels between obamacare and genocide reflects an ideology. Trafficking guns doesn't.

There's no similarity at all, no reason to bring up Yee in this thread. It's just people who put party loyalty (or antagonism toward the other party) ahead of basic decency trying to change the subject.

The American citizens are like the citizens of Alderaan and Obamacare is the Death Star.

Well since this thread got totally derailed I think if its any consolation there was pretty much a unanimous agreement that Leland Yee was a scumbag and there was nothing to discuss in the threads here. Also here in the bay area there was a pretty good amount of coverage about it. I rarely watch the news and I saw plenty about it.

Yeah I was having a light hearted satirical laugh at your arguments expense.

Is it news worthy of the War Room? Sure!

Is it interesting? I suppose!

Is it a big deal? No!

Are there posters here who are hypocrites on the right? Yes!

Was a Democratic State Senator and Gun Control advocate trying to sell illegal arms to a Chinese gangster a bigger and more interesting story? Yes!

Was the media all over it? No, lol come on he is a Democratic and his hypocrisy is regrettable, but the cause is something we believe in, the P-r-o-g-r-e-s-s-i-v-e way of the future... so sssssh, let's play the media game and talk up the hyperbolic rhetoric of Rep from a less important Southern State because he has "R" next to his name, and downplay the "D" Senator trying to sell automatic weapons to a Chinese Gangster... bad for the narrative, and we do love the narrative.

I don't know, man.

The Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow and Leland Yee story was pretty big! It got much more news coverage than this TN Senator and his "holocaust" statement....which I have yet to actually see in the news (I don't consider Sherdog news!).

Not sure where you're getting your news from, but the gun trafficking story got plenty of play on plenty of outlets....and rightfully so.

The TN thing was front page lead story news on Yahoo and Google, Shrimp Boy was covered mainly by California news to my knowledge.

"Shrimp Boy" had more legs on page 18B, but never broke as a big national "coverage" story.

When the gun trafficker is a renowned proponent of gun control who was supposedly going to buy from Filipino terrorist groups? Really?

Ha

So your point is that Yee is really bad and therefore, every thread should be about him?

I'm in DC and the Yee story was front page Google news, local TV news, Washington Post, etc. It was plastered everywhere...as it should have been. I didn't see the TN senator story on Google news yesterday...but I may have missed it.

You're not really trying to make the case that this TN senator sound byte is getting more news coverage, are you? It might have hit the waves yesterday, and is now gone. The Yee story went on daily for at least a month (it was/is a bigger and much more important story, so it should have more lasting power).

It's a very odd position to take.

Quite honestly, yes absolutely, I've been in the South, Midwest, and Mountain regions the last few months and the TN thing got much more exposure.

Maybe it is a difference between Beltway and Middle America coverage or one of us has cognitive bias, hey could just as well be me, but where I am or to my perception the TN story got way way more coverage.

How many dems claimed the Arizona law that required any one who looked like an illegal to provide papers when asked was 'just like nazi germany' again?

You guys don't get to pick and choose when that's a reasonable comparison to make.

It never is. Now if you wanted to say that the Japanese treatment of the Chinese during WWII was WORSE than the holocaust... Then you'd be on to something.

Can you elaborate on your post in such a way that it's clear that that *wasn't*, in fact, your point? It doesn't seem that there's any other possible interpretation.

You're asking me to defend your strawman for you?

No, ask a better question and get a better answer, if your conclusion is still a giant strawman then end of discussion.

Hmm. I'm asking you to explain why you think that's a strawman. If that's not a good enough question for you, maybe you should refrain from the character attacks, no?
