Tito is little underrated imo

Oh I know Tito made changes but Frank would have as well. Also, the game plan was a big part of that. Frank was doing well from the bottom. It’s not as if Tito just magically tired out on his own.

A rematch would have been nice but I’m content with Frank being the Shamrock that beat Tito.

Oh and regarding his retirement, I wouldn’t call the Diaz fight a random Strikeforce event. It wasn’t the best send off though.

Didnt meant the Diaz fight. They had some ceremony out of nowhere randomly on some card. Thats what made it kinda awkward. Crowd didn't know wtf was going on.

Edit. it was Fedor-Werdum so not exactly a random card but came out of nowhere lol.

Ah yes, I think I remember that actually. I agree on that.

Nah it's just been a very long time since he was on top, and many people have surpassed him. I like Tito though.

He was one of the top P4p fighters in his prime w wins over Guy Mezger, Wandereli silva, Yuki Kondo, Evan Tanner, Vlad Matyushenko....

He ended up losing to Chuck, but that was a bad style match up. Same with Randy. Even after his prime he beat Vitor, Forrest Griffin, Bader.... should have beat prime Rashad Evans if a point wasn't taken. Almost got prime Lyoto in a triangle.

Very underrated.
I agree. His longevity alone - 20 years or so, all in the big leagues, is something to behold. He's clealrky a gifted athlete who worked hard to stay competitive.

I do think that his unintentional comedy anytime he has a camera in his face ("let me tell you how youmre feeling right now"), his idiotic ramblings on politics (not to mention his horribly embarassing time in office) are a big reason why people underrate him as an MMA fighter.

Appearances on Celebrity Apprentice, to starting Team Punishment, the man continues to evolve and I respect that.

Tito was a great fighter for a time when fighters weren't as well rounded. His takedown ability was very good and his ground and pound some of the nastiest ever. Had an incredible pace for a LHW as well. Lacked some skill in the standup, but certainly improved that to some degree over time. Just didn't seem to have the speed and technique to be a great striker. Beat some of the best fighters of his time. But Chuck had his number and matched up well against his skills and weaknesses.

He was pretty basic. He was a guy big for the division that took advantage of his opponents lack of wrestling. He was well rounded for back then and had underrated power. He was a wrestler taking advantage of the fact that good tdd wasn’t had by everyone. He was a paper champ, his defenses weren’t against the greatest. His first defense was great the others were meh either smaller guys, inexperienced ones or a guy coming off of a loss. Also, ufc 84 is the last time we saw prime tito. The Wanderlei win was very impressive, though.

You're using "prime" pretty loosely. Rashad was super green and just went to split decision with Sam Hoger a year earlier and majority decision with Bonnar.

Tito wasn't underrated, he was rated pretty highly at the time, which is why they kept overmatching him and he only got 1 win in his last 9 ufc fights. He was a top guy for several years but was a notch below the top guys when better wrestlers showed up but kept getting matched up with them.

One of the greatest light heavyweights of the night
