Tito is little underrated imo

What most don't take into account is that Tito was not just the champ, he was the face of the UFC for several years. If there was any mention of mma in mainstream media, chances are it was Tito. He did a good number of movies/tv shows and made a few appearances with TNA wrestling. The guy was huge in bringing mma mainstream.
He was, and Dana can try to spin things all he wants. At the end of the day he and Tito got on the wrong page because Tito was the first main stream guy to complain about money. Recognizing the sport was growing and he was not getting remotely his fair share. The landscape started changing soon after.

He definitely was never the best lightheavy weight of his time, but in truth, neither was Chuck.

Chuck made a shit load of money and got super famous benefiting off a time in the sport in which a number of all time great light heavy weights were fighting in Japan. Does anybody thinks any version of him could ever beat a prime rampage Jackson? I sure don’t..

Rampage and Shogun were on a different level. And no way on earth would Chuck's corner accept a fight with Machida after the way Rampage took it to him (Chuck) in Nevada

Having seen his entire career, Tito had a very good one. Let's not forget he fought under a different ruleset. One that current champions 'all of a sudden' cannot continue from receiving the types of blows that were 100% legal under that ruleset. I respect Tito.

I think stylistically Chuck was always going to defeat Wandy. So that fight late in their careers was not a fluke. However, rampage with his boxing, amazing chin, and wrestling skills is a nightmare for Chuck.. Any version of him.

Rampage is underrated on here for whatever reason. Rampage was a major contender in both Pride FC and UFC yet does not garner nearly the appreciation as a Chuck or W Silva. It was also odd his title loss comes off a controversial fight to Forrest Griffin in which it was an even split 50/50 on who even won the decision. Rampage does not have the quickness as a Shogun or Machida, but has effective stand-up, power, and sick striking defense. In the UFC he did not show a lot of his grappling base but he's good and well-rounded there, too

Rampage ahead of Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell individually for sure.

Why for sure? They both have significantly more title wins, more top 10 wins, and longer reigns of dominance. What puts Rampage over them?

UFC 40 was historically the first event that showed that the sport could possibly hit the heights of mainstream. It was the first one that got some decent coverage from the media.

I remember Rampage vs Chuck 2 feeling like it hit a new level.

It did it in terms of media and publicity. I think that was the first sports illustrated cover the UFC ever had. The fight was a massive disappointment.

UFC 40 had that interview on the best damn sports show between Tito and Ken. That was some crazy ass shit. Really hyped up the fight..

They built the division around him so he could beat up MWs.

People talking about him beating up Ken Shamrock like Shamrock was anywhere near relevant to MMA at the time is hilarious.

I don't know what you remember, but he was just as incoherent and retarded back then as he is now. His best moment was just laughing at Ken at the press conference where he didn't say anything.

retardedness can sell

luke vs perry wasnt a battle of the minds, costa is the best talker in mma

Wins over Liddell 2x, Silva 2x, Machida, Hendo, Lindland, Randleman, Arona, and Bustamante

Won the title defeating Chuck and then defended the title against Hendo.

Rampage was deeper in the weeds against Jones than most LHWs of that era, 2010-2012. I would rank him ahead of Chuck and Wanderlei, no asterisk attached

He was one of the top P4p fighters in his prime w wins over Guy Mezger, Wandereli silva, Yuki Kondo, Evan Tanner, Vlad Matyushenko....

He ended up losing to Chuck, but that was a bad style match up. Same with Randy. Even after his prime he beat Vitor, Forrest Griffin, Bader.... should have beat prime Rashad Evans if a point wasn't taken. Almost got prime Lyoto in a triangle.

Very underrated.

Very underrated and one of the original first stars.

Machida w was a bogus corruption judges robberies. Even Page waa dumbfounded by the decision.

He was a pioneer of elite conditioning. His wins over Wand and Vitor especially, aged very well.

Post-prime, he was surprisingly competitive with the next generation of fighters like Rashad.

Ok what makes those wins better than Wanderlei who beat Rampage 2x, Hendo, Sakuraba 3x, Arona, Mezger, Kondo, Jardine? What makes defending the UFC title one time better than defending the Pride MW title 4 times and winning the 03 GP?

What makes Rampages wins better than Chuck beating Couture 2x, Tito 2x, Sobral 2x, Bustamante, Mezger, Overeem, Wanderlei, Vitor, Randleman? What makes Rampage defending the UFC title one time better than Liddell defending it 4 times?

According to the judges on paper it's a win, whether it's popular opinion or not.

Machida beat Shogun 1
Forrest Griffin beat Rampage

Very underrated.
Tito was still fighting during the beginning of the Prime Jones era. Basically there is really about 5-7 years separating both Tito and Chuck from the worst beatings they would have ever received from the newer generation fighters. Both are highly respectable pioneers for the sport but pretending either would be in the top 10 of the UFC if in their prime today is a damn joke. Rate them as legendary pioneers but neither is underrated

He was decent.

Recent accomplishment though is not passing out until 9G:s in the G-force centrifuge
(most just laughed at his funny face without considering people normally pass out at 5G:s)

nah, I think he’s properly rated.

he was way bigger than a lot of his opponents. And the skill level wasn’t really that great during his time.

But he was definitely skilled for that era. Frank Shamrock, Randy, and Chuck showed his limitations. But he still had a solid career. So yeah, I don’t think he is underrated. I think he’s fairly rated.
