News Titanic Tours Submersible missing in atlantic ocean

Or, one of them systematically eliminated the others within a few minutes of realizing they were stuck, and he's got another week's worth of air
The human body begins decaying 24 hours after death and then consuming more oxygen than if you were alive and breathing

I also cannot, for the life of me, understand why there would be no way to open the hatch from the inside! That seems completely insane. It's not like it would be a danger of some person going crazy and just opening the hatch underwater b/c obviously they would be completely unable to open the hatch b/c of all the water pressure pushing up against it.

To me it seems crazy cheap and easy to have 4 failovers.
1. In event of power failure/emergency, drop the weights and slow float to the surface
2. Ability to open the hatch from the inside once up to the surface
3. Have 1-2 weeks worth of water and emergency rations
4. Beacon of some sort that if you were bobbing on the water someone could pinpoint your location

If you are stuck at the bottom you are screwed anyway though and it wouldn't matter at all. Nobody is getting down to you that quickly anyway.
yes stuck on the sea-bed 2.5miles down is a Death Sentence. and i'd imagine....that's probably where they are right now.
I'd imagine the other passengers might share their unkind thoughts on the sub's design and build quality with Mr Rush before they all finally die.

The hull is built to withstand the pressure so I dont think it imploded.

They lost comms before they made the Wreckage. But I don't think they lost power as it takes 2 hours to get there if they lost power at 1.5 they could of just manually released the weights an floated up in a few hours.

Either they met a Giant Squid or something that fucked it up or they didn't lose power an decided keep going even no comms (thinking ot was maybe on the other end) an got stuck.

Either one plausible. We got no clue most the creatures over a mile down. And folks that been looking forward to something like I'm sure the passengers were can talk them selves I to all sorts of dumb shit.

That is because astronauts are on a payroll. They are not paying for the journey themselves. The billionaire who paid the Russians to take him into space decades ago was labelled in the media as the first "space tourist."
Good point. Never the less, this is extreme tourism. Like extreme sports. If MLB had similar injury rates as x games athletes there would be hell to pay but although they are both sports, they aren't really the same. They don't even drug test x games competitors because it'd stifle their drug induced creativity. Too much deep sea regulations might scuttle the brilliant innovations that we are witnessing here today.

Maybe the hull was but the observation window wasn’t.
more than three dozen experts warned Rush in a letter about the company’s “experimental” approach to testing and stressing the Titan. They called on OceanGate Expeditions to have the sub undergo a traditional assessment by a leading certified organization, one which the company was “unwilling to pay” according to court documents in a legal battle with Lochridge. In those documents, the director of marine operations had learned that the viewport for the Titan was only certified up to 1,300 meters less than a third of what would be needed to reach the Titanic.

No i don't think it is being misconstrued at all. He said what he said. It seems pretty obvious to me. Can we get a look at everyone he employed? And those he passed over?

Here is what the Daily Mail says he said in an interview with Teledyne Marine:

'When I started the business, one of the things you'll find, there are other sub-operators out there, but they typically have gentlemen who are ex-military submariners and they — you'll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old white guys,' he said.

'I wanted our team to be younger to be inspirational, and I'm not going to inspire a 16 year old to go pursue marine technology, but a 25 year old, you know, who's a sub pilot or a platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational.

'So we've really tried to get very intelligent, motivated, younger individuals involved because we're doing things that are completely new.'

Rush explained: 'We're taking approaches that are used largely in the aerospace industry, is related to safety and some of the preponderance of checklists, things we do for risk assessments and things like that are more aviation-related than ocean-related and we can train people to do that.

'We can train people to pilot the sub, we use a game controller, so anybody can drive the sub.'

If you listen to him talking about industry vets telling him he is nuts for letting inexperienced pilots in a submarine in the Pugent Sound he claims the vets don't know how great multi beam sonar - which he uses - is. The impression he is giving off is not that he won't hire old White guys, it's that he wants younger people, to inspire other young people, and he bucks the trend in the industry on how things are done. The 50 year old White guys is just euphemism for the traditional civilian submarine industry veterans.

For the pertinent portion where he mentions the 50 year old White guys, skip to around 26: 45. He never says he won't hire 50 year old White guys, he only says he tries to hire younger people. He even says that a 16 year old isn't going to be inspired by him because of his age but the 16 year old will be inspired by a 25 year old employee of the company.

The tabloids and internet culture warriors are misrepresenting what he said. This reminds me of people on right leaning forums blaming the issues with the F35 and the Boeing 737 Max on diversity hires without any evidence to back up their claim.

Yea so I read it correctly. I never said he was racist. I'm sure he had the best of intentions. How could he inspire with 50 yr old white men? I see this attitude everywhere. We can train this unqualified person to do this or do that. Who cares ? Now he's dead. Which is fine. Just a shame he killed others based on his ideology

get a grip

Are they still treating it like a rescue mission or has it turned into a salvage mission? What's the vibe on the news?

Estimated oxygen time is about 10 hours now

Saying he wants to attract younger people is not the same as saying he won't hire old White guys. Daily Wire was founded by Ben Shapiro so hardly a surprise they will run a headline that agitates the online culture warriors. Online commenters are most likely responding based on articles like the one from Daily Wire without looking at the interview and looking at the whole context. The French guy who was the other crew member onboard the sub is an older White guy.

To be fair, now is his time to shine. Gotta strike the iron while its hot.

You know that step kid ain’t seeing a penny of that Billions, kid went to a concert the day of lols. If he had that much $$$ he could see Blink when and wherever he wanted.

obviously the kid is not close to his step father. So I ain’t even mad at the kid, go get yours because you aren’t getting his..

Sigma stepson whose stepfather is about to die a terrorizing death by suffocation at the depths of sea in an abyss of complete darkness, with no loved ones around, perhaps never to be found, be like:

I saw that a couple of minutes ago. Earlier I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt on him attending the Blink-182 concert as his way of coping but this comment appears to show he is indifferent.

He apparently has Asperger's.

This guy is one of the people down there

This same guy actually went to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, the deepest known part of the ocean successfully in a submersible a couple of years ago? He went almost 3x deeper than the Titanic. How could he not see the difference in quality between that mission and this one is a wonder. The Titan looks like it was made for a matchbox derby.
