I’ve been sitting here like “why in the hell is everyone interviewing James Cameron?” Yes he has gone down to the titanic and made movies about the thing but shouldn’t they be interviewing engineers or submarine captains or some shit? Like people who do this for a living, not a movie director who does this for a hobby..?

He dove to the deepest parts of the ocean that any human ever has...three times deeper than the Titanic. He is a legitimate expert in the field.

He said that he had an idea of what happened immediately but didn't feel it was his place to start spouting off while the families thought there might be hope. I think that's a reasonable stance. He'd probably have been called an asshole.

Seriously though, I want to know where he got the information about the weights being released from.
 
Just a quick note for everyone piling on about the use of a game controller - a significant number of military pilots use game controllers for their unmanned craft. The two biggest reasons are 1) that's what the kids these days are used to, and 2) they work exceptionally well for that task.

Don't you think the press and the authorities selectively giving things to the press are more at fault for that false hope? Why is it James Cameron's responsibility to clear the air and is he really going to be taken as the voice of authority when arms of the government and such are reporting banging noises every 30 minutes and no reports of and possibly dives for the wreckage from last known coordinates until the oxygen window runs out.

Everyone knows that military use game controllers for those reasons, but the military has specifically adapted those controllers professionally to work with such unnamed aircraft. That is why nobody is talking shit about the military using gaming controllers.

but this submarine douche just made his own because it was economically beneficial to his bank account.
