I laughed that they got rid of Taskmaster so quick, director of this movie must have hated the Black Widow Movie storyline as well.
The director said in an interview that after the writers' strike ended, they re-evaluated the movie and thought it seemed a "little bloodless". Taskmaster was originally meant to die much later in the movie but they felt that if she bonded with the team, her death would have had a greater impact on the team and would have disrupted the tonal balance and took some of the emotional space they were building for the connection of Yelena and Bob.

This movie was so relatable on a lot of levels for me and my gf. You could absolutely sympathize with each one and I even felt bad for John Walker, which I never thought I would do.

It hit a lot of personal beats and was fun to watch. Will definitely see again.

Borderline Top 5 MCU movie for me. 9/10.
Can't wait to see your new AV of John Walker and his new unique shield lol.

Males sense that's a better call , especially with that character Being disliked and needing to have more of a payoff later in the peak scenes

Saw this yesterday on a double feature with Sinners, I liked it but I didnt love it as much as some people in this thread did, I've seen it compared to GOTG1 and its not that high up for me but it is definitely up there with the first couple Avengers movies, which I thought were great

Really loved that fine ass Florence Pugh and the way she was moping around in the beginning, that was hilarious

I dont know anything about The Sentry character but I really frickin loved everything about the way he was portrayed here, especially when he was fully formed and giving his speech up in the penthouse skyscraper and he looked dope as fuck when he was floating in the sky covered in the void or whatever

When he first appeared in costume with his fancy pants new hairdo and was giving his speech, the way he was speaking and his head movements reminded me of someone but I could not figure out who, when I saw his name in the credits I realized he was Bill Pullman's son and he was reminding me of Pullman in Independence Day, I really like that young actor

David Harbour was good as the comic relief washed up tough guy looking for one last moment of glory, his mid credits scene was hilarious and he was even better in the post credits scene

Im just never gonna be a fan of Bucky no matter what movie he appears in, I do not care for him at all

I dont know the other ones so Im guessing i missed whatever shows or movies they debuted in, I am curious about the Captain America guy, though, what other MCU was he in?

Elaine was great as always and I absolutely loved the last 30 seconds of the main film when that carny bitch turned it around on them and got to live another day, it reminded me of Pappy O'Daniel introducing the Soggy Bottom Boys, it made me LoL out loud for reals

The storyline was solid, the action was great, MCU is always gonna present a top notch production and make everything look cool, powerful and bad ass and this was no different

I frickin loved the hilarious newspaper headlines during the credits and the post credits scene was superb, although I did not like that it appears to have already answered a major question we all had going into the, well not gonna spoil it but you know what Im talking about

All in all a damn fine upper midcard entry into the MCU, I dont got it as a main eventer like a lot of people do but with the terrible PPV's the MCU has been booking lately, a solid meat and potatoes upper midcard storyline feels very refreshing and whets the appetite for the big Summer blockbuster we got headed our way in two months

6 Thumbs Up Outta 7

That Captain America-looking guy is John Walker, a.k.a. US Agent (played by Wyatt Russell). The character first appeared in the limited series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Walker was the new government-sanctioned Captain America in that series.

Just like Lewis Pullman, if you thought Wyatt Russell looked and sounded somebody similar, it's because he's the son of Kurt Russell (and Goldie Hawn).

Oh dang, I never woulda pulled that one about Russell, he looked familiar to me, though, and I just saw that he played the dad in Night Swim which is a movie I very much enjoyed, he was good in that

I havent seen Captain America : Brave New World yet and Im curious to watch it now because I assume the stuff Bucky was talking about in the post credits scene was from that movie

You would get a kick of watching the Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters where it stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, playing the same character from different timelines. :)

Just for context, the stuff Bucky was talking about is not in Brave New World. That's just a development they created in the post-credits scene for Thunderbolts. So no connection there. Plus, Brave New World is not that good. Just mid-ish.

I give this movie an 8.9 out of ten. I'm sad that everything is heading towards Doomsday as I want the multi Avengers thing to have its own movie and also they should add real Taskmaster and Abomination to the Thunderbolts.

THUNDERBOLTS* Flies to Soft $74.3 Million Opening Weekend in the US for a $160 Million Global Debut

A group of misfits and outsiders are making headlines at the box office after winning over audiences in a major way.

Marvel and Disney Thunderbolts* soared to the top of the domestic chart with an estimated domestic opening of $74.3 million, slightly ahead of expectations for a superhero pic that features lesser-known characters. While Marvel and Disney would no doubt have liked north of $80 million, playability will be the biggest factor in terms of how the $180 million movie legs out.

Overseas, the star-studded ensemble pic led by Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan pulled in $86.1 million for a global start of $160 million; again, in line with expectations.

It drew impressive audience sentiment across the board, including boasting a glowing 95 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third-highest score for a title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And on PostTrak exit polls, audiences are giving it a rave 4.5 out of 5 stars, while it received an A- CinemaScore.

Directed by Jake Schreier, the film brings together a band of dysfunctional outsiders — and lesser-known comic book characters — who discover their potential to be heroes when working together. In addition to Pugh (Yelena Belova) and Stan (Bucky Barnes), the movie features Wyatt Russell (John Walker), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Lewis Pullman (Bob), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (CIA director Valentine Allegra de Fontaine).

In the film, Louis-Dreyfus’ villainous character has positioned a number of MCU loners and rejects to kill each other for her own nefarious reasons. But they instead decide to team up in response to the obvious setup, bringing along newcomer Bob, who suffers from a mental illness that has catastrophic consequences after he’s subjected to cruel experimentation.

The Marvel pic is contributing to the continuing boom in moviegoing currently underway at the box office, with ticket sales for the weekend up 95 percent over least year when Marvel sat on the sidelines and The Fall Guy kicked off summer to disappointing results. And year-to-date revenue is now up nearly 16 percent over 2024.

Ryan Coogler’s sleeper sensation Sinners enjoyed a phenomenal third weekend as it came in second with more than $33 million. The supernatural vampire pic, from Warner Bros., continues to break all the rules and fell a scant 27 percent or less for a domestic tally north of $180 million.

And Warners decision to hold “rowdy” screenings of A Minecraft Movie seems so have paid off as it climbed back up the chart to third place with an estimated $13 million to $14 million as it approaches the $400 million mark domestically and $1 billion globally.

I heard they did some statement on mental illness in the movie.

Not really a statement per se but the film does explore themes of depression, loneliness, guilt and trauma. It's the reason why they've assembled these side characters with an existing history of emotional and psychological baggage and tied it up with Sentry, a comic book character with a history of psychological issues.
