So I rewatched the Ferguson/Lee fight last night. I did remember Lee getting the better of Ferguson on multiple occasions but I didn't realize how dominant he was in the grappling department compared to Ferguson.

Now I don't know how Kevin Lee's strength compares to Khabib's, but I hope this is not a preview of what will happen in the Khabib fight. A lot of the times Lee got a hold of Ferguson, he managed to overpower him and get the takedown.

Ferguson had the striking edge. I won't post all the highlights of the fight, I just wanted to focus on his biggest weakness which will be put to the test in his next fight.

I think fighting Kevin lee probably helped prepare ferg. But as many will say, khabib is a different animal. One thing I will say, khabib has never fought anyone like tony.

Kevin lee is more explosive and aggressive than khabib, in the first round that is. Khabib will definitely td tony, the thing is what will tony do from his back and the scrambles. Plus, khabib most definitely won't finish tony quick, and khabib does slow down as the fight goes. Tony is a cardio freak with 0 quit. Fourth round, khabib doesn't get tds anymore and tony is in his face throwing nasty strikes, that's when it gets fun

True. Ferguson is probably the most complete fighter Khabib will face on the ground. He's slick, has the ability to pull off submissions and is versatile.

But his TDD is pretty bad and Khabib just mauls everyone.

Tony's best bet is probably to try to cut Khabib early in the fight. Maybe try to cut him with elbows from the bottom if he ends up on his back. He should also focus on submissions. No amount of TDD defense practice can prepare you for Khabib.

to be fair the takedowns ended up being his downfall. Tony is a spaz on the ground and you never really know what he’s up to. That ground and pound from Kevin is a red flag for sure, hopefully he’s got an answer for that.

Khabib is positionally sound as well but he likes to smother you, the way he distributes his weight to control and implement pressure is second to none.


Khabib will definitely beat that ass on top, but has his own style for implementing damage and advancing positionally. How that matches up against Tony's bottom game will prob play out a fair bit different

looks like a decent part of Lee's success is tony being so wild on his feet, but clearly once Lee gets a hold of him he pretty much can ragdoll him to the ground. at first i was thinking 50-50 roughly for Khabib-Ferguson, but the more i think about i just don't see Ferg winning. people say how unorthodox/unafraid of being on bottom he is, but i'd just be very surprised if he wins

kevin lee was 184 on fight night for this fight, of course he outwrestle tony for 1 round and then gass like always. Khabib aint that big, and wont overpowered tony as easily. I think tony might be stronger than khabib honestly.

Regardless of what the Dawg will tell you, when Lee isn't gassed, hes really fucking good. Streaky, inconsistent has issues with staph and weight cuts, because these do play factors that no one seems to care about, Lee is damn good.

Like I said in another thread, Tony's wild streak and comfort while playing the bottom game will be his undoing against Khabib unless he can hurt khabib early.

To be fair Kevin Lee can be a monster, he beat down Barboza worse than Khabib did and that was Khabibs coming out party.
