Thoughts on Chiropractors or Acupuncture?

Physical therapists vary so much that their almost as bad as chiropractors.

Go to 10 different pt's and you'll probably get 7 different answers.

Go to 10 chiropractors and you'll get the same answer, "let's pop your back"

Here's the thing though. Chiropractors suck at diagnosing. They think they can cure AIDS by cracking your back.

However, there are some types of things that CAN be helped by chiropractors, like general kinks, pinches, tweaks, in your back.

So the trick is to decide for yourself if a chiropractor can help you, and if so then go see one. Just don't ask a chiropractor because they'll always think they can help you.

If I sleep wrong or tweak my back twisting wrong, then my chiropractor is a godsend.

However my wife has a serious back injury and had no disc left between some of her vertebrae, so chiropractor can't really help her, although they think they can.

For the last couple months my back has been absolutely killing me, I blame it on ten hard years of BJJ which I recently took a break from and working in a very cold environment for just as long. I've tried massage therapy and it just doesn't seem to cut it and I also don't really want to start asking the dr for painkillers at my age. I've heard two things about Chiropractors, either they are the greatest place to go for pain relief or that once you start going you have to keep going, I watched some vids on YouTube and it kinda scared the hell out of me. As for Acupuncture I've heard that it's great from some and that its all bullshit from others, anyways your opinions please..

My girlfriend is a Chiropractor. When they work specifically on lower back, back, neck and shoulder issues, they are great. But then they start going to far by claiming they can cure deafness or other serious stuff via sublimation. The girlfriend is also fantastic at working my pole.

Damn I thought I was lucky having a hairdresser for a wife

And when the focus clearly on the spine and back, they do well. Look at this before/after -

Yeah, man - it's amazing have a girlfriend who gives me adjustments on demand. She enjoys the practice and my lower back and shoulders feel ten times better after an adjustment than from a massage from our pool boy.

For reals, I would recommend chiro adjustments to a massage any day of the week for over all well being.

This will blow your mind -

This particular doctor is one of the best in the world !

I was going to post this. If you're in a metro area or at least a mid-size city with a lot of chiropractors do your research online. Find one that's good at, and going to spend a reasonable amount of time and different techniques diagnosing your issue, preferably somebody with a similar issue as you. I've never been to one but have had family/friends, and some said the just felt around their spine/neck and adjust. I'm guessing most people's spine is slightly out of whack from excessive sitting, poor posture, working out/exercising, sports, etc, but maybe that's not the only issue. In some cases it worked, others they are returning customers. I've always thought of acupuncture as a bit of quackery, but I know it works for some. You may end up having to try multiple places.

In the end, chiropractors and even acupuncturists have tons of student debt, and when that's paid off most want that bigger house, that lake house, etc and just want your money and will do anything to retain your business, so you might as well do your homework and find one that's highly recommended.

They're both alternative medicine, i.e. bullshit with no scientific evidence they actually work.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't work.

In some cases people have been permanently injured by chiropractors.

In some cases people have been permanently killed by doctors. Medical malpractice is actually a real thing. Look it up.

Go see a real doctor.

So he/she can prescribe you with pain meds? As if real doctors are infallible all knowing gods who never do wrong to patients. Doctors are just like other human beings who shit, piss, fuck and do all sorts of stupid shit like any other human. See this crazy girl? Shes a neurology resident on a epilepsy team. Crazy fucking people like this can be in any doctors office.

The smart thing to do is not blindly trust any doctor, any chiropractor or any acupuncturist and make a calculated decision on who you should see and whether or not they are full of shit.

Check out this babe, and the comment section is amusing too :)

Very little a PT does is based on evidence. It isn't quackery per se, but much of it falls short of evidence based care with any pr

This. Chiropractors can be very helpful in the right situation. I had something pinched from bad form and my left arm was tingly and numb for days. My sister is big on chiro and suggested I see hers. I had never been to one before and described what was wrong. He gives me a basic adjustment and upon cracking my neck it was like a floodgate opened and I instantly felt all the feeling come back into my arm. It was unreal. I don't suggest visiting one frequently but it's not complete bullshit to go to one. I go maybe twice a year for "maintenance" adjustments.

Ur probably better off with physical therapy. In my experience chiropractors just provided immediate alleviation with pain but no real significant change over time. Physical therapy really helped out though and helped a slow recovery
This All the way ... Chiro is a pseudo science meant for you to keep coming back ... Physiotherapists dont want to See you ... Thats how they know they are helping

Ive heard some really good things about chiropractors but im reluctant to try them. Physical therapists are basically drs but it seems like all they do is give u a worksheet of exercises that are common sense.

Acupuncture I have done and quite frankly the first person didn't do squat, the second one but not convinced it was the acupuncture alone. What he did was use acupuncture, then attach electricity to the needles to loosen my muscles, then a full body-massage after.

I was seeing a Chiropractor for a year and recently stopped. It has it's benefits and other things not so fond of. But like anything else, who you see makes all the difference in the world.

In the end what helps me the most, and don't laugh: Yoga. I am not kidding! I follow either a Hatha or Ashtanga Yoga DVD (I bounce between them) after a HIIT cardio session. Helps BIG TIME!

I hurt my back playing badminton so badly I couldn't stand straight.

I finally went to a chiropractor and he fixed me inside of a minute, it was as if I'd never been hurt.

All I can add to this discussion is that some times they're fantastic.

I've done lots of acupuncture for various injuries. It seems to help some but when I say I've done lots, I mean I've done LOTS because it's cheap as hell here in China, like 7usd/session and you can just walk in to the clinic...

Acupuncturists are pricks.
My ex-sister inlaw is an Acupuncturist and she has implants (fake boobies) and 6-pack abs and looks awesome in a bikini. Granted she has herpes and her personality sucks..now I think about it she is a prick. :-)

It was actually a joke. Needles ... pricks ... ha ha.
