For the last couple months my back has been absolutely killing me, I blame it on ten hard years of BJJ which I recently took a break from and working in a very cold environment for just as long. I've tried massage therapy and it just doesn't seem to cut it and I also don't really want to start asking the dr for painkillers at my age. I've heard two things about Chiropractors, either they are the greatest place to go for pain relief or that once you start going you have to keep going, I watched some vids on YouTube and it kinda scared the hell out of me. As for Acupuncture I've heard that it's great from some and that its all bullshit from others, anyways your opinions please..

Ur probably better off with physical therapy. In my experience chiropractors just provided immediate alleviation with pain but no real significant change over time. Physical therapy really helped out though and helped a slow recovery

Will they do phsyo for just general wear and tare? I never just had 1 incident that caused it or anything at least not to my knowledge

Yeah You could do that I assume. The physical therapists like money so the won't care lol. Also just learning stretches or maybe yoga classes. But u gotta really do it. A 30 minute stretch routine is harder than you think to do on a consistent basis. But a physical therapist will aid you on what stretches and what muscles to strengthen for ur specific problems.

I've never found physical therapy useful. Never been to chiropractor or acupuncture

Not sure where you live or if it's covered, but if it's a certain area/muscle that's the problem, try a cortisone injection.

When I slipped a disc in my back I tried physio, acupuncture, massage therapy, but the cortisone injection was by far the most effective at relieving pain.

Chiropractors are mostly quacks and may wind up injuring you more. Some may massage you, apply heat or cold and then pop your neck or back and make you think they've actually fixed something.

Acupuncture is ineffective at best, and can be dangerous too.

Go with a physical therapist. They can prescribe exercises and stretches to strengthen your lower back and alleviate the issue.

the only way i get rid of an injury these days is if i get another injury.

They're both alternative medicine, i.e. bullshit with no scientific evidence they actually work. In some cases people have been permanently injured by chiropractors. Go see a real doctor.

Voodoo.

PT can injury you as well if you don't begin with a proper diagnosis from a doctor.

This is pretty much what I have going for myself, the only thing that takes my mind off my back is when I twist my knee or jerk my shoulder

Physical therapists are glorified athletic trainers- mostly quackery -save yourself time and money and youtube some stretches and exercises. I dont know anything about acupuncture.

I don't know much about it to talk on it.

But, I do love me this video.
Fastforward to about 3:25 and watch.... or, just watch the whole damn thing.

Don't know many athletic trainers that extensively study kinesiology; which isn't a science filled with quackery

it doesn't take a degree in kinesiology to know what muscles to strengthen. Any high school kid with a basic understanding of anatomy could figure it out. Physical therapists are glorified 24 hour fitness trainers

Well that's good because kinesiology isn't the study of "what muscles to strengthen".

I have had both.

Not much help from acupuncture. I had it for tendinitis, but I think my symptoms were too severe for it to have any chance of helping.

Chiropractic has been pretty helpful for my mild back pain. Don't trust the practitioners who think that adjusting your back will fix every ailment under the sun. But it can work for back pain. Check out Groupon for places to try in your area. Then make sure they are good by checking yelp.

Also, evaluate your daily habits. Much of my problem stems from sitting too much. I am thinking about getting a standing desk for work. Check out guides for good workplace ergonomics, like posture, and what stretches to do.
