They're not fighters because MMA pays peanuts. If UFC paid more than NFL, they would become fighters. These guys are athletic specimen, they can be good at whatever sport they want if they applied themselves to it. Especially MMA, which is a very sub par sport, athletically.

Pay really has nothing to do with why leagues like the NBA and NFL have larger pools of elite athletes.

Only a non-athlete thinks this way. NFL players, with very few exceptions, have been playing football since junior high school. They do not choose to avoid the UFC because of the pay. They do not go into MMA because they that is not the sport they have committed half of their life to learning.

NBA players make far more money than NFL players. What percentage of NFL prospects does the NBA poach?

To compare Shaq and Lesnar athletically is a huge joke. Lesnar couldn't even make the roster for the Vikings, whereas Shaq completely manhandled and dominated other monster athletes in a time where physical play was almost unregulated. No comparison.

I'll actually be reasonable and say that Shaq with 3 years of BJJ would most likely completely decimate the heavyweight division. He's big enough to the point where his size just completely neutralizes any sort of wrestling.

:wink: Oh, word? Every single one of the MMA fighters has something that every single one of your non-MMA fighters doesn't - a background in martial arts. There have been plenty of guys who have crossed over from a martial art to compete successfully in MMA. On the other hand, there have been practically none from other sports. Wonder why that is?

Educate yourself, UFC fan. The UFC is filled with C and D level athletes, many of whom picked up MMA as a hobby and went on to have lots of success and fight in the premiere MMA promotion with minimal experience. An elite A level athlete would embarrass an MMA fighter if they decided to get into MMA. MMA is the Rocky V of sports.
