International this is extremely impressive

Yeah, this is one of the few bright spots of an authoritarian regime. They get shit done FAST.

Labor rights, human rights, environmental concerns, permits for this and that, they all go out the window. Here in Texas, a big part of the trouble in building a bullet train from Houston to Dallas is the pushback from farmers whose land the train will inevitably cut through. They go to court, they organize, they take up petitions, etc.

Needless to say, something like this wouldn't exist in China. They'd inform the farmers their land is about to get divided and tell them they got a week to GTFO.

This is all it comes down to. It has nothing to do with 'tHe RiSe Of ChInA', it's purely about the little man having some say in things in the USA. China's been undertaking massive construction projects for millennia (Great Wall, duhh). People talk about a lack of rights in the USA, but in China there's no rights whatsoever.

No, its cause they make shit globally, for everyone - not just USA. Also Europe/Korea/Japan (not just USA) outsourced shitload of its industry to China - they gained the know how not just from USA, but all of the leading developed nations (cause they were all greedy and wanted that cheap production costs, even if it meant Chinese stealing all that tech for themselves).

No, Obama played a major role in building China up. And the 'Made in China' meme is coming to an end, as China becomes wealthier, its workers demand higher pay and companies just move to poorer Asian countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia etc).

Obama isnt an apple, nike, tesla, coca-cola, boeing, general motors, microsoft, walmart shareholder - he didn't force any of these companies to outsource their production to China. Share holders of those companies decided on doing so in pursuit of ever increasing profits.

Manufacturing can't just move, to poorer asian countries, over night:

1) They don't have infrastructure as good as China (roads, railroads, shipping lanes/ports)
2) They don't have cutting edge tech readily available like China does and highly efficient supply chain network - you can literally go from a concept to a working product in matter of days in China (something that is unheard of in rest of the world) due to bunch of industries being clustered together in large trading/industrial zones (for example Shenzhen)
3) They don't have the number of skilled workers required for large scale tech production

Yes, Apple has started making its products in India recently and some manufacturing is moving to Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia - but its mostly low tech industries who got priced out by rising manufacturing costs in China.

China will stay relevant for years to come - and after a while it won't even matter if US companies left China, because China will be the global leader in these industries. If you want the best product you will have to buy Chinese - same thing that happened during the 60s/70s/80s when Japan overtook US so US had to curb stomp its exports in order to maintain n1 position lol.

China now has the tallest bridge in the world and it only took them 3 years to build

At the top, there's a coffee shop and a space for events such as weddings

America hasn't built anything of worth in like a hundred years or more

I just cannot see China not being the top dog in the world in the future anymore.

They can build amazing things without any red tape and they build them fast. And they're getting better and better every year.

Any Americans wanting to know what their future looks like should just come to Britain. We used to build stuff like this for fun (look at the Victoria Falls Bridge). Now we are a dysfunctional mess that can't get anything done.

Just as we were overtaken by the US, so the US will be overtaken by China.

America, we are your ghost of Christmas future.

Corporations are apatrid by nature, which means that they are profit oriented, even if going against the interest of their country.
Microsoft an US corporation when to China 20/10years ago, and gave technology to the chinese government. The chinese copied, stole that technology, which led chinese counter intelligence to be very efficient, as a result, many CIA spies were caught and executed, because of Microsoft.

This is what happen when you give corporations too much freedom and power, they can backstab you for 2 cents. Microsoft won it's millions, but the US main rival China improved, and thus, the US lost billions.

Some shareholders in the west, they would sell missiles to the enemy of their country for 2 cents, just so they could do hookers and cocaine for the rest of their lives, even if their country would be the target of those same missiles which is indeed foolish.

Well, it's both. China is definitely rising in just about every way you can measure it.

And a big part of their rise, especially when it comes to construction projects, is because they can skirt a lot of things by that democracies can't. Of course, it's not the only reason, you also have to be competent. History is full of countries with dictators that are inefficient and useless as shit.

yeah fuck preserving land or nature, just bulldoze it all and dont think about the consequences.

hope you dont go to any national parks, ever. theyre useless land, just imagine a strip mall in Yosemite! its wasted potential as a protected park, i tell you.

Oh, my mistake. I forgot that these systems we have in place that swelters the cost of over runs of nation building projects into the billions and extends deadlines ahead by decades is about preserving nature.

Its got nothing to do with unlocking the infinite glitch hack for consulting fees and contracts for self-serving, kleptocrats that line their pockets with our money.

No, it’s all about saving that one, crucial patch of poison ivy that no one's ever going to hike over.

My old man told me a story about working in China. A tender was bringing them into port from the ship and they were surrounded by Chinese in little boats trying to sell them stuff. One of the chinese blokes got bumped and went overboard where he was struggling to swim. 3 guys including my dad went overboard to assist. Got the dude into their tender and helped him recover his boat.

Next day they got called in to the contractors offices in town to meet some suit. Give their names and get sent up a massive elevator. Feeling pretty good about saving a locals life they think they're in for a high five and maybe a bottle of whiskey.

They get into this rich looking Chinese fellas office who's scowling at them. Then he stands up and let's rip. "WHAT DA FUCK U THINK U DOING, U FUCKONG STUYPID? WHAT HAPPEN IF YOU INJURE?? YOU, VERY EXPENSIVE, HIM? 3 FOR 1 DOLLAR"

Then he just sends them off .

With that kind of attitude towards lower socio economic citizens they can build things on time and under budget.

Believable, amusing, but also... wretched and horrible, let's be real.

The worst thing is, you know there are people that hold you and I in that regard and have people around them they wouldn't dare watch try to save us.

I never said he did.

I never said they do.

China will stay relevant for years to come

I've never said they won't, nor have I denied China's relevancy.

Imagine that! Look what a wealthy country can do when they invest in their national infrastructure. Which party in the US is currently responsible for cancelling tens of billions of dollars in infrastructure projects at the moment?

The US hasn't built shit in over a hundred years. The only thing I can think of is the Statue of Liberty and we didn't make that. Maybe the Hoover dam

It's been a long time since there was a huge push for this type of infrastructure in the US. Biden tried. The Republicans threw a bitch fit about it.

There's not reason why we can't create another CCC...

Civilian Conservation Corps

"but at what cost?", "mUh HuMan riGhtS". I see a lot of copium in this thread. Meanwhile, China has been improving its infrastructure. Good for them.
