Even as the year turns to 2015, there are a few humans among us, and alive, from the 1800's. It boggles the mind and it's rather amazing to think about, as this statement will only be valid for a tiny while longer.

There are 6, to be exact. I remember reading about the subject a little over a year or so ago, and there were 20. Currently, here is the lineup:

Misao Okawa 05 MAR 1898
Gertrude Weaver 04 JUL 1898
Jeralean Talley 23 MAY 1899
Susannah Jones 06 JUL 1899
Bernice Madigan 24 JUL 1899
Emma Morano 29 NOV 1899

After this, there are 7 people left from the year 1900.

I am an amateur historian that focuses primarily on WWII and the interwar years preceding it, exclusively the European timeline. I stumbled across these names the other day and wanted to make mention of it. Since I primarily study this era and the figures associated with it, here is an interesting comparison on just how old these people are and amazingly are still with us:

Many of National Socialism's most prominent characters were all coincidentally born in the year 1900. Martin Bormann, Heinrich Himmler, Gestapo M

something must be done about this.

By the time we get to the year 2100 we'll probably have people still alive who were born in the 1970's.

But is it in bad taste to a Sherdog pool to bet on which of these people last the longest?

Selfish fucks. They probably cost more than they've put into their system to stay alive this long.

The last wounded WWI veteran died in 2003. The last veteran to have served period in WWI died in Feb 2012. The last survivor of the Fuhrerbunker was born in 1917 and died in Sep 2013. Shows just how extremely rare and very improbable these people are testament to.

Captain Crunch was barely a private back then, long before he got his commission, and a fuck of a lot longer before he had modern weapon system training with the crunch berries, whom lets not kid ourselves, are the only reason he's even famous and won his battles for him

I must know their secret of immortality.

their secret is not using the internet

Well we are all screwed then.

if they catch a cold it's over

When I was young, people born in the 1800s weren't really uncommon. Takes me a moment to realise that we're well into the 2010s now, so it's rare as fuck these days.

That is pretty incredible to consider. Those ladies were 4 or 5 years old when the Wright Bros performed humanity's first controlled flight. Saw the invention of the automobile, lived through both world wars, saw man land on the moon, and lived in 3 different centuries.

I recently read an article about a bowhead whale estimated to be around 230 years old. It would have been around 75 years old when the American Civil War started.

Some might have grown up on civil war stories and the like from their grandparent...holy moly...
