The Witcher 3 vs. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Posted this in the DA:I thread:

I like Witcher 3 but it hasn't really pulled me in like DA:I. I played the shit out of DA:I but I can't get myself to play Witcher 3 for more than like an hour at a time. The combat is more skill-based than DA:I but so far it's just not that fun to me. It's OK but I had more fun wih DA:I. I thought Witcher 3 was gonna pull me in but after about 5-6 hours I've kind of put it to the side for now.

Witcher 3 imo is technically the better game, but DA:I was more fun to me. I don't know if I'll finish Witcher 3. My friend has brought his PS4 over and played Witcher 3 and I enjoy watching him pplay it, but I just can't get myself to slam out a 2+ hour session and want to play more.

I don't think I should vote yet, maybe if I pick it up with more time invested I will have a different opinion but as of now I like DA:I more.

I still hold this opinion I can’t be bothered to play Witcher ever again but I’d probably have a good time playing DA:I again. I just did not have much fun with Witcher

Aged like milk? Really?

I think that may be a little harsh. The new Dragon Age will be coming out next year, so I was going to try to play throug this again in the leadup. Now I'm motivated to get ahead on that because I'm interested to see how I'll feel about a revisit.
Let us know how it goes. It was a drag the first time and even worse when I went back to it the second time. The primary issue with the game is all the meaningless fetch and collection quests that take up the bulk of the game. I'm someone who tries to do every quest and it's just tedious with DAI. What absolutely sucks is that the round table shows quests that sounds super cool and are important to the story but you're just selecting an advisor to go handle the quest and coming back two hours later to collect a reward. Meanwhile the actual gameplay is you wandering the Hinterlands doing meaningless tasks for peasants or collecting 10 of a specific item. The actual storyline and companion quests are solid but most of the content is filler.

Yeah, that's an easy trap to get caught up in. A lot of people, including myself, got stuck roaming the Hinterlands and grinding bullshit missions forever, since it feels like the main hub world. Best bet is to get the fuck out of there as soon as possible. It's not meant to conquered in one go. You really have to manually balance the game's content to get the most out of it.

The actual story content is pretty good, but the problem is it's a much shorter game without all the filler. The fetch and collection quests probably account for 70% of the gameplay taken as a whole.

Anyone following the news about the new Dragon Age game? Only 3 companions and you can't control them. They are turning it into Mass Effect and abandoning the RPG gameplay and strategy at a time when games like Baldurs Gate 3 are revitalizing the genre. What happened to Bioware? If this flops this has gotta be it for them.

BioWare’s been dead for like a decade now. Sad but true.
