The Witcher 3 vs. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Heh, like I said, different strokes. You think the combat in DAI is amazing, and I thought it was terrible. It's a good thing there are so many game developers out there. There are more games I want to play than I possibly could, so I take a pass on some and enjoy others.

I still think by the end you'll have enjoyed yourself a lot on this game.

Having put 40+ hours into Dragon Age, and having just bought and put maybe 10 into The Witcher, Witcher wins this by a mile imo. I'm just having more fun doing everything. And the creatures, god damn the creatures.

A Botchling? Like, Da Fuq lol?

Posted this in the DA:I thread:

I like Witcher 3 but it hasn't really pulled me in like DA:I. I played the shit out of DA:I but I can't get myself to play Witcher 3 for more than like an hour at a time. The combat is more skill-based than DA:I but so far it's just not that fun to me. It's OK but I had more fun wih DA:I. I thought Witcher 3 was gonna pull me in but after about 5-6 hours I've kind of put it to the side for now.

Witcher 3 imo is technically the better game, but DA:I was more fun to me. I don't know if I'll finish Witcher 3. My friend has brought his PS4 over and played Witcher 3 and I enjoy watching him pplay it, but I just can't get myself to slam out a 2+ hour session and want to play more.

I don't think I should vote yet, maybe if I pick it up with more time invested I will have a different opinion but as of now I like DA:I more.

Its the controls for me. I load it up, start moving around, feel like a tank. Say fuck it and turn it off.

I prefer DA:I because I could play the game for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Agreed I'm actually glad you brought this up cause it was one thing I forgot to mention that I really wanted to point out. These games are just very different games from each other. Trying to compare them is like asking someone if they like FF tactics or FF 7 more. While it's true they are both RPGs they both approach the genre in very different ways.

I'm already enjoying myself in W3 while there are some annoying ways the story is playing out it's more then good enough I can already tell. I can't wait to really get deep into the story as I feel the witcher games really just keep building up as the story goes on.

Witcher 3 is a master piece
Doa was a good game.

Big difference between the two

Random necro, but agreed. It really is.

One has aged perfectly and is hailed as one of the GOAT games.

The other has aged like milk.

I own both... and I've bought Witcher 3 on PC, PS4, and Series X and played through it six times for a combined 270+ hours of playtime.

With DA:I I've tried playing it twice, and barely got 3 hours into the game... which is atypical for me because 3rd person fantasy RPGs are my jam.

So this thread being bumped is pretty humorous to me.

Witcher 3 holds a special place in my life. It was an amazing game that came out in an amazing time in my life. Haven't played anything as good since and haven't been as happy since.

Aged like milk? Really?

I think that may be a little harsh. The new Dragon Age will be coming out next year, so I was going to try to play throug this again in the leadup. Now I'm motivated to get ahead on that because I'm interested to see how I'll feel about a revisit.

Yeah, I may have been overstating it.
But I've heard from gamers that loved it back in 2015 that it really isn't that good now.
Hype can really change gamers perspective for a game being much better than it actually is, which is why I typically like to wait a few years after a game's release to play it and judge it on its own merits.

I think Witcher 3 is probably my favourite game of all time when you take into account the incredible DLC.

I think Toussant might be the most beautiful game location there is.
Unquestionably it is. That offers a relief. Much of the rest of the world isn't meant to beautiful, but blighted. I think it also works on a figurative level in how it shows that sometimes monsters lurk in the shadows even in beautiful places; in grand castles and mansions. Sometimes, even in plain sight. Sometimes the "monsters" aren't monsters at all.

It's quite Lynchian in that respect.

As I've said in the past, you haven't truly played The Witcher 3 until you've played Blood & Wine.
As great as Blood and Wine was I think I liked Heart of Stone better. I loved every character introduced there more. Olgierd, Gaunter. Shani (best girl), Vladimir, the heist crew. It wasn't as big as Blood and Wine which is basically another game but it was packed full of high quality content. Though as a book reader I cannot describe how happy I was to see Regis again.

I love the Blood Wine area, it's so gorgeous, but Hearts of Stone characters/story stayed with me longer.

Gaunter O'Dimm legit shook me. His entrance at the end/beginning, (I foget) is goat status.

It's no contest between games, but it's fun to look back on things.

I liked DAI overall, but never finished it. Maybe i'll do it one day. I liked the gameplay, felt like a nice blend between DAO and DA2.

I always remember it as Bioware making every female character ugly or unattractive, intentionally. That's when I started noticing the trend with western developers. Gotta avert that male gaze lol

As previously mentioned, I've played through Witcher 3 six times, which includes HoS, and it gets less and less fun each time you play it.

Got nothing against the narrative, but its extremely linear with the only meaningful choice is the final one, and even then leaving Olgierd to die horribly isn't a satisfying ending. Challenging O'Dimm's riddle clearly is the cannon ending.

The Heist is the high point of the DLC, and one of the highest points of the entire Witcher3 experience, but it absolutely has the lowest point of the Witcher3 experience... the dream world Von Eric Estate. What a depressing chore it is to get through.

Its a blast to play through the first two times, its still okay the next two times, and then a slog the final two times.

And I don't know why CDPR decided this, but you practically get no EXP points as you progress through the storyline. Compared to the base game and B&W's EXP it almost feels like they're punishing you for doing it.

All of that said, Gaunter O'Dimm is one of... if not THE... best antagonist in gaming history.

BTW, if you've played through it only a few times don't let my opinion influence yours.
