The Williams Guard: A Compendium (GIF & Image Heavy) Long Post!

Hey guys, thought you might like these
Let me know what you think please

Thanks Dan, I dont have time to look through them at the moment, I'll check them out after work

WOW! Nice work!

thanks

Ah ok. So "am bar" is pretty much one step before what Eddie Bravo calls "jiu claw" which is itself one step before you sit up at which point it would become an attempting omoplata. The am bar is what I've just been calling "the position from which you do the 'leg over' attacks" which would also include pretty much anything done from there such as the star sweep, or tossing the leg back over the head for a triangle, or hooking the far arm with the instep for sweeps or neck cranks. Usually I'll only be looking for a "leg over" attack if my omoplata attempt failed.

I had thought (probably should have paid closer attention to the gifs) that the melanson armbar and am bar were both "chest armbars", which is what the school I go to calls the "armbar" in which the elbow faces away from your chest and the wrist is trapped next to your neck, and you press the back of the elbow with your hands to hyperextend. I assume you could do one from that position as well

yeah, i wondered about arm crush type attacks from that position, im sure its possible. maybe other stuff like hiza-gatame (all of these pics apart from bottom right)

in amongst the editing i giffed these two techiques, showing entries to the position including a beautiful hip bump to williams guard entry, demonstrating how you should flow between your sweeps and your entries

also i have a bunch of new stuff from the williams guard that i will get around to filming at some point! i promise :icon_chee

but for now a good tip if you roll with the gi. if you can get all the way on your side, use your free arm to grab the opponents far lapel and feed it to your hooking hand, from here you can attack with x chokes, baseball bat chokes, leg over (ambar) gi chokes AND... they cant pinwheel pass! ...well they can, but only if they enjoy choking themselves more. you can also use the skirt of their gi to do baseball bat chokes too! i have really refined my positioning too, and im looking forward to sharing some ideas, concepts and techniques when i get a camera, a camera man, a partner and some time!

just about too add all the gifs to the original post, i will also upload a rar of the new gifs if you want to download all of the new ones! stay posted for the link!

Some instructions by the OG himself Mr Nino Schembri. This has some great details, especially if you like omoplata's and gogoplata's. I will GIF it and upload it to the OP shortly.

Has anybody tried Nino's rolling method to get to the side instead of shrimping out? Whenever I try it my opponent muscles up and blocks my rolling motion. Any advices?

Personally I prefer the shrimp out before even trying to lock up the position. Notice that Nino isn't really on his side at the start of the video, there is no way the average person can control the near side shoulder to prevent the opponent pulling his arm away and getting posture. Nino can probably do it because of his crazy flexibility. The only way I could see it working would perhaps be if you had the kimura style grip that Dean Lister uses, but even then i'm not sure.

This has a lot of stuff I haven't seen before, lots of cool entries and neck cranks to prevent the cartwheel.

Marcin Held seemed to take his grappling to amazing level last night Bellator 126....1st round showing the rolling polly leglock attack game and finishing the round by getting to leg hook with a shoulder clamp and face palm spring pressure elbows many times on both sides.

Rd2 and rd 3 showed a more tight wrestling bjj game, double leg faith, and tight control against black belt pitbull.

Damn i missed it! I didn't know he was fighting. His last fight (maybe) he finished a triangle from Williams guard. He's great from that position.

No problem! There is some good Williams guard stuff on estimainaction. Interesting timing too, I was thinking about making a breakdown of its use in competition next week! I really have to make some time to film some tricks that I haven't seen taught!

Breaking down Zombie to Rat Guard to Leghook Guard to OMA PLATA on the Side and why that is so much better, and tons of Oma Plata finishing Variation Subs

tons of counters maybe u haven't seen

if u picked anything up u haven't seen before, or something u think will help plz comment and bump the thread for others. It is a lot of work and I try to cover all aspects of MMA, Grappling, and Combatives/RMA for people to learn from. And GambleDub spent a lot of time doing this, so bump for others
