Television THE WHEEL OF TIME (Cancelled by Prime Video After Three Seasons, post #448)

The Amazon reviews are currently
5 star 55%
4 star 10%
3 star 3%
2 star 5%
1 star 29%

So 5 star and 1 star are the main ratings. The 5 stars seem to be people who didn't read the books while the 1 stars are almost all people who read the books and seemed to expect the show to somehow follow the books word for word.

I'd rate it 3 star so far. Not great, but a decent burner show to put on when doing something else

Seemed interesting like some D&D movie based on just seeing the promo.

Saw the first episode and I am out.

What is the point of having source material, built up over decades, to just shit on it like that.

I am not even mad at making Egwene a ta'varen apparently, or aging up the characters. But jesus christ.

I did not think I would be one of those, it needs to follow the books kind of people, but they basically used the book as a wide blueprint, and went from there.

Also, why do studios hate characters named Thom? First Tom Bombadil gets left out of every version of the Hobbit/LOTR, and now Thom Merrelin, a major fucking character, is not even there.

Fuck this.
Well not to spoil but
Thom gets there and hopefully they do him justice; his relationship with Mat is probably one of te highlights of the books.
Not a huge fan of the desperate diversity of the cast; there’s enough natural diversity in the books without the need to force it but whatevs. The two main problems I had,
one minor and one major: why make Abell Cauthon a despicable sleaze? Was he remotely like that in the books? I can’t remember but I don’t think so. I do know he was a kickass archer though. Why make Perrin married and then kill his wife? It kind of compromises his arc. TV writers just love to change shit to put their stamp on it for ego sake I think

All that said, I do like the books for the most part. Good first 7, below average next four and good last 3. Just hope they mostly stick to the books but make it faster and so far it’s ok.

The one thing that I did understand from the first episode of Game of Thrones was that Ed was an honorable man which made me doubt that Jon was his bastard son. My first thought was that Jon was his dead sisters child that he had to protect.

LOL

Yeah, sure you did.

Whilst it was pretty apparent early on there was more to Jon than first met the eye, to conclude the biggest twist in the show after 40 minutes is almost unbelievable.:rolleyes:

Did you read the books? Just about every female character came across as a bitch and every male character was a dumbarse pawn for the female characters.

I did. Mat was my favorite character. I got past the first episode and will try the next.

There were two big clues. Ned is a man of honor who I didn't think would break his wedding vows.

Jon had Stark blood from somewhere.

Benjen Stark was in the Night's Watch. If Jon wasn't Ned's child, that left Lyanna who had died. If Jon wasn't Ned's child I figured he had to get the Stark blood from Ned's sister. Ned was either protecting Lyanna's reputation or his nephew's life or both.

These shows need to be watched closely as there are some nuances that aren't noticed in a casual watch.

<Lmaoo>
I knew Bran would become king too, from 20 minutes in because he was climbing or climbing the ladder of power.

I knew Dany would be driven mad by a bell because of the lack of bells on her storyline on the first season

My wife and I figured it out after 2 episodes. Just made sense. I figured Raegar raped her and she got pregnant, and my wife was like “they probably fell in love and that started this whole mess” and I was like, BJ Penn nod.

Oh yeah? Well I knew that fat fuck had only given them a basic outline for the last two seasons so they were definitely going to be a pile of puked up shit.

That female lead is very pretty, and the diversity of the two rivers community is reasonable, it's a trading town at the foot of mountains.

Luckily I read the. WOT twenty years ago so am not bothered by story changes.

Trollocks were first genuinely frightening orc analogue I've seen.

4 stars so far.

a nod of the head and a tap on the nose

I couldn't remember if Perrin was married or not from the books. Also not a fan of that change. He has one of the best arcs in the books.

At first I hated it, but it gives him a quick and easy reason for not liking violence. They are going to have to explain aspects of the characters in a lot less time than the books do.

He’s definitely not married in book 1 but that’s all I’ll say.
He does have a great arc but they already appear to have compromised it. Who knows, maybe they’ll make it workable?

The actor playing Thom is great way better than I thought it would be.
Thom, Mat appear to have been cast well. I don’t mind Rand, Moiraine and Lan either. Nynaeve and Perrin ok. Egwene is less than great but people have already commented on this. There’s almost a bit of arrogance to some of the casting like “us wokeists know better than the book fans” There’s some other minor casting that looks weird too. But I don’t want to be too negative

Whenever I see or hear someone use the term "woke" to describe something, I assume they are racist and sexist and object to anyone but white men being in shows and those men have to all be hard asses.
