Completely unexpected. I would have thought EVERYTHING that's popular in the US would be popular in the rest of the Anglosphere.

I always got respect for the very few countries that manage to escape or reject large US business empires. Aside from Australia and just off the top of my head:

Walmart failed in Brazil
McDonald's failed in Bolivia
Coca Cola failed in Peru (but they came back and bought out the one local soda that it couldn't beat )

South America ftw

Burger King has to go by the name Hungry Jack's there because they a local shop already had the Trademark

On the old forum software (vB), coupled with slower servers, too many threads over 1k caused lag issues. But with Xenforo, and better servers, we can handle threads well over 1k. If they get too gigantic then we may have to close them up. Oddly enough, the like system is the real bane to the server performance when it's overloaded. Go figure
It can't even handle a couple thousand likes

Well that’s true. Rugby is pretty popular here in Polynesia. I was something of a rugby player myself in my day (blindside flanker), but not like my dad or uncle. All I was good for was aggression and tackling. I was more into American football where I mostly played linebacker/DE, TE.

That’s still kinda small for a hooker. I run about 5’11” 220.

I thought the talk of you being fat was all just jokes.

We are talking small college sport rugby here so I’d say the lightest person in the scrum aside from me was probably 190-200+. I was about 170 by senior year so that’s pretty undersized imo and I paid a lot for it. I was very lean at that time and for the most part, I look pretty average now despite needing to lose 15 more lbs from lockdown.

What exactly would or could do well in Bolivia?

I picked up BIO of Space Tyrant when I was like 13 on a camping trip. It had the authors name up top bigger than the title. When you said his name I went straight to the title. Was enthralled at the time.

I still remember the refugee space pod and the successive waves of pirates that kept getting worse and worse (rape, meaner rape, murder rape) then the military contract marriages as he progressed through the military ranks. I think I only get three books in.

When I remember it now it’s seems like it was sensationalist dreck, but I could be wrong.
I haven’t read it in more than a decade, I wouldn’t be surprised if your recollection is right.

What’s funny is I was reading that in my teens, my parents were clueless. Describing rape as a guy with a dagger stabbing a woman, etc. I have no idea how still I turned out so awesome. Good genes I guess.

Also, Savage Sword Of Conan was straight up comic porn for a 13 year old. Lots of nudes and sex in black and white glory, with Buscema and Dezungia’s pencil and ink especially. And killing and gore, yeah baby. I was ruined for shit like The Avengers, Superman, and Batman. Never got into any of them, bunch of wimps, imo.

murica's new league has a few semi decent teams , but they are half full of imports, give it a few years and some better coaching, i remember watching a clip of the japan coach jamie joseph guest coaching scrums at a texas college, the man has the patience of a saint is all im saying. Canada used to regularly stuff the US team in internationals, but in recent years they have rolled backwards pretty far, the Canadian womens team are pretty good.

Wow, people are besmirching my beloved Dunks up in here.

I could honestly die a happy man today....
Interesting turn of phrase. If I were to die today, would I go out happy?

No. I might be happy at any given moment, but there's no way I will ever be happy at the prospect of death. When it's game over you don't get to hit New Game and start over. There's only one go round so fuckin' right I'll be supremely pissed when it's my time. Gonna fuckin' rage, rage at the dying of the light, you can fuckin' count on it. But as so many on here so often do, you've inspired a haiku, so thank you for this.

Haiku of the day #9

When it's game over
You don't get to press reset
Play every moment

There's no such thing as objective food quality since there are no units of measurement.
Incorrect. Lack of people getting sick compared to people consuming other foods is certainly an objective measure.

It can't even handle a couple thousand likes
True that's fucking sad. But what he said does suggest we could let threads go to 2000 posts until there are signs of issues. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it would help in terms of not having as many posts that languish at the end of the threads because there would be fewer threads. Just sayin'.

Edit: yes obviously Captain Fucking Pedantic is just now catching up with 5 pages of posts hence the multiple posts in a row. Suck it up.

When food hasn't gone bad, though, and isn't likely to make ya sick, there's no way to objectively measure the 'goodness' of how it tastes. That's subjective.

Let me guess you order those frufru sugary drinks starbucks has too? Unicorn sludge or whatever those are called. That's what most people order when they go in Starbucks.. those diabetes traps that have like 400 calories
I don't trust men who put anything in their coffee.

because they are boys, not men

Glad I could help.

And now I’m depressed, thanks professor.

I do love that rage against the dying of the light shit, though. And I’m a big fan of the Bukowski we are here to drink beer and kick ass so death trembles to take us, or whatever.

What I said was for effect, btw. Can’t die happy knowing my little girls would be raised without their dad, no sir. I’m here until 120 at least, bet on it.
