But every house cat has those same instincts, they just can’t act on them. They didn’t have the opportunities that colonial America had. The human desire for power and wealth isn’t some “inescapable instinct“ on a macro level? You sure?

I hope that you can appreciate that this post and this kind of argument has some Greoric-style suppositions baked into it - about how tribalism, barbarity, and exploitation are natural and inevitable so they should be actively enabled.

Regardless, the cat analogy is just silly. We're not talking about animal instincts for survival (and, ftr, that's why cats kill: to ensure their survival by securing nutritional intake). We're talking about deliberate actions taken by large systems of logical actors, usually represented inwardly and outwardly on logical bases. The cat doesn't secure its ability to kill the mouse by telling the rats and birds it is protecting their freedom.

I think my criteria was more well rounded, the only thing people have put forth in response is average standard of living which is something but America is just #1 at so many other things. Like I said no nation on earth comes close to our towering influence in so many fields, we're really unparalleled.

I mean you did come off as anti-nationalist with that statement about how people shouldn't pat themselves on the back for where they're born. I get that that doesn't necessarily mean one can't have love of one's nation but it did suggest that kind of left anti-nationalism. But sure I made quite the leap there.

Oh I wasn't applying that to you necessarily, I was just explaining what I mean by misanthropic environmentalism. I did before but I retract that here. I highly doubt you sat down with your wife and said "honey I'd love to have kids but think of the environment", figured you just didn't want em.

People are free to think that way just like people are free to believe the earth is flat. They're both wrong though. Tbh I don't believe anyone really makes a decision on whether or not to have kids based on the environment, people who pretend to are those who already didn't want kids and are justifying it with some pretend high minded ideal.

I asked that question to drive the point home that overpopulation isn't really an environmental concern, excess consumption is. Doesn't have to be you in particular, applies just as much to me and everyone on the forum since virtually anyone with a computer has a greater enviromental impact than an Amish family.

Aww man, alright I'm sorry. I'll admit, I was being a cunt and came at you out of nowhere. I kind of did project a bit onto you, I mean how can I really know? You seem like a nice guy, probably a good neighbor and stuff. So sorry buddeh

Well like I said earlier they call him Alexander the Great but it ain't because he was a nice guy.
I get a sorry not sorry vibe from this, I mean, "kind of...a bit"? I guess I might be just dizzy up here on the high horse you seem to think I ride. But in that case, why don't I see you up here?

OK, I might be kind of busting your balls a bit at this point. I accept your apology. But(t) fuck, man, get a grip. Your logic was terribad throughout this exchange. It was disheartening to have to defend myself from such an insane onslaught of misdirected anger, particularly from a mod and a user for whom I had some measure of respect. You downplayed your reaction to my comment about Peterson but it was much the same sort of outsized spit of venom as this. I just didn't engage that time.

I say this in the spirit of community harmony so you can hopefully see I bear no ill will but I'm not going to let something like this slide without comment either. Now, 'nuff said as far as I am concerned.

Quality discussion for sure, but at the same time, someone who isn't phone pwnt should put this thread out of its misery.

Also, Gibson vs Eck is the greatest plate appearance of all time ainec

I hope you can appreciate that those questions aren’t purely rhetorical. I don’t know the answer. Tribalism? Maybe not. Barbarism and exploitation? Maybe. And I certainly don’t advocate for enabling our baser nature, no matter how inevitable it may be.

but during most of human history I would argue that the desire for expansion and resources was certainly based on survival. The human competition for food, resources, and sex is certainly no less ingrained than the cats‘.

So St. Maarten, one of my P4P top 5 islands in the Caribbean. Can’t give a huge review so I’ll focus on a couple great spots I recommend. Basically it’s an island split down the middle...one side French, one side Dutch. If you love casinos and a night life, the Dutch side is your place. If you want an upscale experience, exquisite dining.. the French side is for you. Orient beach on the French side is also where the people like to go au naturel....I found this out the hard way and not the good kind of either

The fame of this island is Maho beach, maybe you’ve seen pictures like this (yes there are people dumb enough to stand behind a KLM 747 before take off... I’ve seen people fly a good 6 feet back into concrete thinking they were hard....

There is a bar right there next to the beach called the Sunset Bar. If your lady has a great pair, drinks are on the house :)

For my tastes if you go up the street a little you hit a beautiful half moon beach that’s more private at a place called El Zafiro. Best coconut shrimp I’ve tasted

The water is beautiful here you can swim a good 20 feet out before a big drop off

There are literally two streets, Front street and Back street, this is by the boardwalk and it’s the most touristy place on the island....if a cruise is docked forget about it, but very beautiful on its own, met this happy guy here

There are some great eats here, me personally I love the “Blue Bitch” nothing like some good jerk by the ocean

The island took a hit with hurricane Maria but these pics are after and im happy to say it’s getting back up on its feet
Love Saint Maaaaaarten. Grand Case has the best food in the Caribbean, there's a nice stretch of nude beaches over on Orient Bay, and you can take a shuttle to Saint Bart's to hang with some stars for a day. My wife and I always stay at Le'Esplanade near Grand Case:

Interesting thread in your sig...

Imagine if MMA had a retarded rule like that and GSP was socially pressured into not taking guys down after he had won four rounds in a row or something.
I'm thinking about asking for it to be deleted, though. It's dead. I'm having much more fun in a private conversation with a fellow Femdom fan.

Those are weak boasting points. Americans are delusional to think they’re anywhere near the best country in the world. It’s great, amazing for the top 10% but the rest of the country are miserable. There are other far better countries that put their citizens well being before corporations, like in Europe and some Asian and even ME countries.

The best countries provide the best quality of life for their citizens in every way possible.
Why can’t the US provide healthcare for all their citizens? Healthcare is a basic human right and yet the supposed best country in the world can’t provide this? Much poorer and less advanced countries are able to accomplish this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_universal_health_care

In US democracy is heavily undermined by lobbying corporations. Public officials, elected by the people, serve corporate interests and not the people who elected them. A democracy is run for the interests of the people and all groups in society. America on the other hand is an oligarchy, it’s run for corporate interests and not in the interests of the people. When you pay taxes you expect that money to be used so everyone in society across all social and economic classes can feel that benefit in every aspects of their life. In the US tax payer money is used to bail out incompetent, corrupt and greedy corporations. They enough tax dollars for that yet they don’t have enough money for healthcare or ending poverty and inequality? There’s money to spend on endless wars that gain the ordinary citizen nothing, gets dumb young men killed at the expense of the war industry but not enough to subsidize and reduce tuition costs? Or for housing the growing number of homeless?

There’s also large and increasing inequality across all social and racial groups. A country run for their citizens would not have the inherent discrimination culture present in the US.

What good is strength of the military when you can’t even win a war and the average citizen is so worse off? Oh yeah celebrating someone else’s achievement in the olympics will solve all those above problems. And economy is just another meaningless number because of how it’s distributed. People in Norway and Switzerland are more well off than the US and China despite the smaller economy.

I’d rather be proud of a country that looks after the well being of their citizens with all basic necessities met like in Europe/Asia/some ME. And not boast how rich my corrupt businessmen or filthy celebrities are while rest of the country struggles every single day.
They answer like children when asked why, 177000 dead since March, riots in the cities and a buffoon in charge.....great...

I don't think that every use of power by America has been good, or even most. But if the standard is how other great powers throughout history have wielded power (mostly in horrifying ways), we look extremely good, though.

<JerryWWF>

The US has the ethnic cleansing of North American natives, the only use of atomic bombs in history, and all the worst crimes of the post-WWII age under its belt. The argument that those "look extremely good" when compared to the abuses of other powers is iffy, at best.

Other powers may have had worse justifications for their atrocities, but that's because they rose up in earlier eras, when all of humanity was way behind in moral issues.

But you could also use that argument against the US. It reached its greatest power in the era of human rights, internationalism, rule of law, etc., and it STILL causes atrocities.

Tough to call but to think that the US is head and shoulders above is just... c'mon...

Yes.

There's competition and conflict between states (often with their immediate neighbors) but they're not all trying to be world powers. Remember, it's the US that has had the myths of American Exceptionalism and Manifest Destiny as fundamental parts of its history. Not Guatemala, Cameroon or Estonia.

Looks like the FBI tweeting out the Protocols of a the Elders of Zion is paying dividends
