Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

What, with her condescending old lady clap? Yeah, she really owned him.

Isn't it sucky when your boy, the guy who has literally ghost-written a book on making deals gets played time and time again in deals by an old establishment moron who everyone has to play up as some genius? Dude could have had 20 times the money he has now, and she and another old establishment moron whittled him down. He's not even getting to build his wall, settling for fencing.

Asking questions to foolish Nancy is a waste of time because she is senile, but I do respect their courage to stand up against such a vile disgusting woman who cares more about lining her own pockets than American security and safety.

Meanwhile, our president has loaded his cabinet with establishment rubes and Goldman Sachs chair members while our commercial seaports are not secured.

It’s going to get tied up in legal battles through the next presidential election, Trump will need to run again without having built a wall. That’s the win the democrats were fighting for. If he’s successful in getting the wall built through this mechanism, meaning he wins in 2020, you’ll have some junior socialist party member nationalizing healthcare with equal or greater legitimacy in 2024. Worst case for the democrats, theyre empowered to rapidly push their legislative agenda through the executive branch, and they’ve got a useless wall to keep up.

Yeah but if the Dems continue to push for this Green New Deal garbage, THAT would be the perfect alternate means for Trump to combat Dems on during his Campaign trail, with the "Wall fulfillment promise" still not fulfilled(YET).

It would become a Capitalism vs. Socialism fight which Trump will almost assuredly win.

That would also make his SOTU speech regarding Socialism loom large among voters.

Pardons criminals and uses Executive Powers for dumb reasons. Trump is an idiot.

Looking into that, I'd expect it to be met with lawsuits from watchdog groups, as well, since national security is the Constitutional responsibility of the Federal government. I'm no lawyer, but I'd expect the 2012 SC ruling against Arizona to get raised.

Really?

From the Article :

The idea is likely to be met with approval by some Republican allies in the state, where Republicans control the House, Senate and governor’s office. Breitbart notes that Abbott is a close ally of President Trump.

I say the State of Texas is entitled to protect its own borders, not the Federal Government.

But hey...that's just me. I'm no lawyer either.

But I do think this will go through and the Dems in Congress will rage but can't do anything about it.

Would be hilarious if it's Ted Cruz who is the instrument of Trump getting the Border Wall up and running, though.

I think most people understand that illegal immigrants are less likely to commit crimes, I'm not seeing what point you are making here.

It's that those crimes by illegals are completely avoidable.

#1 job of governance, to have legitimacy, is to protect the people. Has been throughout all 10,000 years of civilized history.

whatever you say, man. <Fedor23>
I'm just saying, 150 miles of wall isn't much on a 2000 mile border.

that's why even Trumps $5B ask was a scam.

OK he gets $5B and bulds a small portion of big beautiful sea to sea wall

and immediately says 'the Dems now must give me money (up to $70B) to complete the wall otherwise they just wasted $5B of taxpayer money as an incomplete wall is not a barrier as someone can always go around.

It would have just been used to set up the next demand.

You're loving the circle jerk in the 'Dems admit no collusion' thread. Only when it suits you right.

6 of you vs 1 against @MikeMcMann and he was still handling you bumbling fools like:

....
Yup.i don't mind when the circle jerk 6 show up and high five each other over every empty Trump compliment post or defense.

the one thing they never do is win a point. But they like to pretend they do.

Yeah it's not getting built. Trump in 2 terms couldn't get the funding to build the entire thing. When 2020 rolls around what is Trump going to campaign on?

heh. I would have no problem with Ted blowing his budget to build Trumps wall. Go for it. If the Texas voters are ok with that much money going there to prop up Trump then have at it.

I just doubt Ted will work real hard to find a way to do that. I think you guys over estimate his loyalty or willingness to spend all his budget bullets that way.

I feel like this thread would be a lot different if those people were relatives of shooting victims outside McConnell's office.

Yes. Doesn't matter where the state legislature stands. Arizona tried to pass their own immigration laws in 2012 and the Supreme Court struck down 3 of the 4, citing the Supremacy Clause.

From the Article :

And? The states can be challenged in court; this very thing happened with Arizona in 2012. You can look that ruling up if you'd like.

I say the State of Texas is entitled to protect its own borders, not the Federal Government.

You'd say the same thing about Arizona; but the Supreme Court disagrees with you. Texas can spend it's money however it likes; not my money, not my state. But I am acknowledging the reality that this could be opposed in court, and that states rights aren't unlimited. And that in the recent past, the Supremacy Clause was cited in a Supreme Court ruling against a state trying to enforce immigration law. I'm not making this up.

But I do think this will go through

Why?

and the Dems in Congress will rage but can't do anything about it.

This will be resolved in court, not in Congress.

Already working to talk yourself into support for no wall trump huh.

Must say I agree with this. State’s rights for the win. And to be consistent you have to stay out of their business when they have “sanctuary cities”, too.

I must have missed the part where a bunch of democrats campaigned on DACA... The wall was literally the cornerstone of the sham Trump campaign and he couldn't come through. Couldn't come through on the wall, hasn't repealed or replaced Obamacare and those were his 2 biggest fake promises.
Don't forget drain the swamp... <45>
