Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

Good weather, lots of corporate HQ's, multiple college's, a magnet for people from all over the south and people fleeing the high cost of living up north, southern fried hip hop. It's the unofficial capital of the south.
I'd rather be in Charleston, Nashville, Savannah, Raleigh, Fayetteville, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Ashville, or Greenville off the top of my head, there are probably more. Huntsville, AL, is supposed to be great, but I haven't been there. If Texas counts the list grows longer. I'd even rather live in New Orleans, but I wouldn't want to live there either.

The fact that you mentioned rap music and named a liberal city as the "unofficial Capitol of the South" tells me that are priorities are probably pretty different.

For yet another process crime.
Dumb Talking Points:

These are "process crimes" (implying they don't really count)
First, there isn't a judge in this country who believes that things like obstruction and witness tampering aren't serious crimes. The distinction between "process" crimes and other felonies is meaningless.
Second, a significant amount of charged conduct goes well beyond "process." Third, there is definitely a great deal of uncharged or sealed conduct that goes beyond "process"-as shown by the failed redaction in Manafort's recent filing.

There are so many weasel words in Trump's alleged national emergency plan to build the wall that I expect the Wall to be built when the Keystone XL Pipeline is. What's going to change between now and February?

Ashville? Really? I've been to almost all of these cities and the one that isn't like the rest is Ashville. If you think negatively of Atlanta because it's liberal, how in the world do you jive that with a positive attitude towards Ashville? Ashville has got to be the funkiest little town I've ever been to outside Austin, TX. There's more hipsters per capita in Ashville than places like Berkeley.

In an effort to not contribute to derailing the thread I'll add that it's hilarious that Trump caved to Nancy and now we know for certain his Presidency, as far as any agenda he hoped to accomplish, is effectively over. His dumbest cultists are parroting whatever he told them to on Twitter but the Cernovich's and Coulter's of the world are going to blast Trump all weekend. Maher tonight will be a lot of fun.

As opposed to Roger Stone, there has been little coverage of Andrew Gillum who almost became the Governor of Florida violating numerous ethics laws. That tells you everything about the media.

New Orleans? The only thing it's good for is Mardi Gras, the rest of the year it's a complete sh*thole

I've lived in Nashville, Who the fu*k want's to listen to country music 24/7/365, I would rather poke out my eyes out with a fork.

I've lived in Huntsville and it along with the rest of Alabama a redneck sh*thole. Trust me there are only so may times you can hear "Roll Tide" before you turn into a homicidal maniac.

I've lived in Houston is a really good city, so is Austin and San Antonio, Dallas along with the Cowboys sucks big time.

Btw every city you just mentioned I believe has a Democratic mayor.

It's Asheville, you fucking poseurs. Beautiful city and country, though, and a lot of cool stuff if you overlook the crystal healing types it's filled with.

I really like the outdoor activities available in the area and the art district won me over pretty thoroughly. I only spent a weekend in Ashville, but I had a fantastic time. You're right, though, it doesn't jive with the rest of my list and certainly wouldn't be one of my first choices to move to. It is just one that I thought of when thinking of southern cities I've been to that were better than Atlanta.

Side note: I don't really fault Atlanta for being liberal, but the city definitely doesn't have the traditional charm I'd look for when naming an "unofficial Capitol of the South".

It is going to be fun to listen to the conservative commentators blasting Trump. I'm curious to see if they can work him up enough in the next three weeks for the shutdown to actually resume.

I don't give a shit. I'm just happy federal workers are gonna get paid.

3 week deal gets them paid and they can pay off the credit card debt they no doubt wracked up and then the shutdown gonna happen again. At least those poor blokes get some respite

It helps
Back pay on my 15th check and should be both of my Feb checks before shutdown 2.

There was a bi-partisan "pay the Coast Guard even if the govt shuts down" Bill that got objected by Schumer because it wasn't pay all the essential workers. Hopefully it gets passes now.

Sorry, typed up quickly on my phone and, as previously stated, only been there once.

Like I told someone else, I don't really fault Atlanta for being blue. It's more that it has a young leftist vibe and lacks Southern charm.
I like Nashville. I don't go to bars or anything like that frequently, so I'm not scared of getting overwhelmed with country music.
I also stated that I wouldn't want to go to New Orleans. New Orleans would be just about tied with Atlanta in my book, except that NO has better food. I do like the smaller towns south and west of NO, though.

If you actually read the link this is a masterful move. He gets all the credit for getting these federal workers paid, and in three weeks if the government shuts down again, the blame will be 100% on the Dems.

Puppet master.
If this is winning I would hate to see what losing looks like
