Why does everyone act like this is a belt for McGregor only, Poirier will have a chance at the belt too. I think it's fair either way. Khabib wants to relinquish it because he's retired and Gaejthe/Da Bronx will most likely get the next shot which will legitimize the belt imo. and then hopefully Chandler can get some wins and get a crack at it.

But I get the concern over Conor not defending.

Having a guy that they had to strip of 2 different belts due to inactivity. Get an undeserved TS for yet another belt doesn’t appear to be in the UFC’s best interests either. But, here we are anyway.

Whatever, it’s obvious to me that 90% of Conor fans are just that. Fans of Conor that don’t give the tiniest shit about the sport at all. As long as their hero gets to call himself a champion, and they get to brag as if they themselves are wearing that belt, they’re happy. They don’t even care if he ever fights again. He sat out for years, and when I started lurking in here, it became obvious immediately that they didn’t even care. It was only after he lost to Khabib that many just faded away. Because it was obvious at that point that he wasn’t nearly what he portrayed himself as. Or what a lot of his fans professed him to be.

I’m newer to the sport than many of his fans. But, I am a fan of the sport first, and foremost. And from all the evidence I’ve seen this is the worst possible decision for the sport.

i am not saying he "deserves" a title shot right now.

but i'm saying the circumstances are not the same as when he won the fw belt, or the lw belt the first time.

you're free to believe he won't defend the belt. that's fine. but just using history isn't the only guide. his options are not the same.

you obviously don't like him, and think he's not that good. that's fine. and it's fine you root for dustin.

but if conor can beat dustin, it reinforces that he is indeed a very good fighter and a top lw. and from there, the ufc has some control over what he does next. they even have some control now, in that they can set the expectations of what comes next.
