The UFC should've cut Ankalaev instead of giving him Walker

Think about it

The guy's prone to very boring fights and has the personality of a potato. He will never be a draw. However, he's good enough to win the title and derail the exciting fighters like Jiri, Poatan, Hill, etc, who've all of a sudden shot a bit of adrenaline into a division that's been dead.

Okay, so Ankalaev will go to Bellator or PFL (and probably make more money there, so good for him). Big whoop. Sure, either of those promotions will gain a talented fighter, but is Ankalaev really going to do much to boost business and cause them to become more competitive with the UFC? No, he's not.

UFC could make up whatever bullshit they want as to why they got rid of him. Ankalaev will say that they cut him because he's too good or whatever. It'll be a story for a day or two and then everyone will move on.

You know what, I gave you a like.

There was a point where Dana stopped hiring boring guys who had the 'personality of a potato', and it led to vastly fewer collegiate wrestlers in the UFC for quite an extended period.

I didn't really agree with that move, but if it's what Dana wanted, it's time he extended it to guys like Ankalaev.

I don't look forward to the guy's fights, and the most exciting thing he ever did outside the cage was not even flinch when Cutelaba lunged at him (that's still cool as shit, though).

I personally wouldn't cut Ankalaev - but we all know Dana would, so I don't see why he doesn't. He makes the rules.

Why would any fight fan have an issue with his personality? FFS

And he's boring? Really??? I can't remember too many boring fights of his. Maybe Jan a little bit but that was a very high stakes and high skilled matchup. I'll let it slide

I want the best fighters in UFC fighting each other

His fights with Volkan and Thiago Santos were both boring as shit.

That means literally 3 of his last 4 fights were crap.

Not hatin', just sayin'.

If there wasn't a precedent for cutting unexciting, high level fighters, I'd be the first to shut this talk down.

I feel Volkan and Santos are in a lot of boring fights too. There's a weird echo chamber at LHW where they are no longer coming up and now doing forgettable fights. I think Rakic fits there too

But I wouldn't single out Ank

I agree with you, and to be honest, if I remember the Ankalaev fight it felt a little more frustrating because the narrative going in was 'omg, Thiago doesn't have any knees' or something, so the expectation was on Ank to do more.

Which he didn't.

Still, I can't really see him lay and praying Johnny Walker, so I actually think Walker has a way better chance in that fight than people will think.

Buddy, go watch WWE

This shit is exactly why the UFC continues to march toward sports entertainment rather than legitimate sport. MMA is probably the most exciting sport on the planet, yet has the most fans that whine and complain constantly about “boring.” Only sport where the fans feel the athletes are obligated to have an exciting match every time. Let the best do what they do and inevitably you will have some exciting match ups.

The Jon Fitch of the division. He'll be brutally KO'd eventually and immediately cut afterward, but not any time soon.

its also not a great look to cry after a draw and then disappear from earth. look Jan, he took it like a man
and moved on.
Ankalaev is undefeated hes gonna win the title sooner or later unlike jan

I actually agree with this, if I never see that dude fight again, I won’t lose a second of sleep. He can do well and make his money elsewhere… send Ankalaev to Bellator and bring Vadim to UFC.
