The TUF 20 Fantasy League - General Discussion & Analysis (Registered Players Only!!)

Seeing all of the predictions of a first round sub or finish by Rose against Jo Jo really pisses me off at the preview makers, because I intended to predict that all along, and I guessed that if it came true I'd pull ahead in the points big time because of all of the people who either were going to be picking Jo Jo to win, or who--if they favored Rose--wouldn't be so bold as to predict Jo Jo would go down in the first round.

Now, if it really does happen, I won't gain except with respect to just a few people. Grrrrr...

I've said before that I'm pulling for dark-horse Thug Rose to win the whole thing judging from how confident she looks on that couch in the pre-season UFC Tonight, and I shall stick with my instinct.

But seeing that Sherdog is totally going bananas over that flying armbar attempt conveniently placed in the Week 11 preview, I might change my Rose pick next week to 2nd Round instead. Bastards in the editing room are probably trying to trick us again!

I'm thankful for all our fellow MMA fans. The TUF subforum wouldn't be the same without you guys constantly updating new photos, video, news, blogs, tweets, and quality topics of discussion for those who are new and anxious to learn more about the SW division. Hell, it would probably be filled with ignorant haters like back in TUF 18!

Have a delicious weekend, folks! Try not to armbar anyone tonight in the Black Friday shopping lines!

I'm thankful for all you guys here as well, but a bit saddened by the thought that we fans of the UFC women's strawweight division will soon be diluted into "the heavies".

*shudders*

we'll always have the wmma discussion thread in the worldwide mma forum

and the play by play threads

Don't be a recluse, be an ambassador of the sport! :D

From the "Official WMMA Discussion" thread from the Worldwide, we brings the knowledge to share with the TUF subforum.

From the TUF subforum, new BW and SW fans bring their energy and new-found excitement to the Heavies and smack down the clueless haters.

There are still some dinosaurs refusing to die, but the dynamics have changed MASSIVELY this past year in the UFC box when there's an exciting fight from the Women's Divisions on the card. More and more people are becoming a fan every single day when their eyes are opened to this new world, including guys who are now regrets that they voted on the wrong side on the Are you glad women are in the UFC? poll. When idiots make a thinly-veiled WMMA-bashing thread in the Heavies, he can expect to get a mack-down by other more knowledgeable posters, rather than near-universal acceptance like it was a year ago.

Some of you were here during the airing of TUF 18. You know exactly what a trash heap this place was then. Every other thread was a women-bashing thread, and every other page in the PBP threads was about who's hotter. And quite a few Mods have allowed that to happen.

It was terrible, but we toughed it out, and taught casual UFC-only viewers a few new things about the sport in the process. But at the end of the day, we still had to return home to the "Official WMMA Discussion" thread for some intelligent TUF 18 debates.

Now, the anticipation of TUF 20 was entirely different. Plenty of information about the SW division was provided before the season is aired. Answers were plentiful for any questions that new viewers may have. People actually got to know who these fighters are before the season begin, and they are able to discuss talents and skills here. Ignorant haters left (or get banned) after being shut down as soon as they open their foul mouths. That's how I know a bunch of total strangers like us can actually get together and have an awesome Fantasy League this season!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but we're actually having a good time watching and discussing each episode, about WMMA, right here in the TUF box!!!

Let that momentum roll into the Heavies after this season ends, and the SW Division takes the UFC by storms!

@Thrillhouse & Arkain2: My first reaction was also to roll my eyes; they love to complain about the ladies and the lighter weight classes on the heavies...so the SWs seem like they will/would take a lot of flak...but things are changing a bit. Some jackass started a thread today (on the heavies) something to the effect of, [Are you upset that one of the main card slots on a PPV is being given to a "WMMA" bout?]. I started to read it expecting the usual gale-force winds of dumbassedness, but like the entire first page of responses was people more or less shutting down the original post. Several mentioned how they would rather watch Ronda - or other "top ranked BWs" - than "a bunch of guys I`ve never heard of". I don`t know how that thread turned out, but that first page was promising. I think PVZ & Curran`s bout last weekend also turned a few heads and changed a few minds. So...maybe things will continue to improve on the heavies(Yay!)....or, we will always have the women`s MMA thread and various Invicta threads - as you point out Thrillhouse.

Now that InvictaFC is on UFC Fight Pass, does that mean we can start InvictaFC fighter - related threads in the UFC Discussion forum?

I wouldn't bother tbh, some of the best posters for WMMA avoid the heavies like the plague and just discuss UFC WBW/WSW in the thread in worldwide.

I post there at times, but a single thread for all of non-UFC wmma is ridiculous really. What are our chances of successfully getting Sherdog to give us a sub - forum instead of a thread? WMMA has outgrown the days when a single thread is sufficient.

I find the main WMMA threads to be incredibly helpful when it comes to fights from smaller leagues, cards that are too small to have their own PBP discussion, but sometimes you have to flip like 50 pages to find what you're looking for due to their massive size and one-size-fit-all nature.

Invicta events are big enough warrants their own threads now in my opinion, though some people still prefer to post Invicta news in the WMMA pile by force of habits like the good old days, which is really counter-productive when they're tucked away under a mountain of info like that.

Now that InvictaFC is on UFC Fight Pass, does that mean we can start InvictaFC fighter - related threads in the UFC Discussion forum?

You can ask in the Support box to see what they would say. They would probably try to keep it seperate though like the current status quo though, consider that the Heavies is already overflow with traffic.

The Good: The quality Invicta topics remains on the first page in the Worldwide instead of quickly being drown out by a million 99Silva-esque threads like in the Heavies.
The Bad: The guys who never wander outside of the UFC box will never know what they're missing out on.
The Ugly: When those IFC girls join the UFC, those guys will need to be educated from the beginning, like what we're doing with the SW.

And it feels good to see some of the guys that put the smack down on the ignorant idiots are the ones you helped guide the way before :D

The way I see it, UFC-only casual viewers don't own the Heavies, and actual MMA fans shouldn't be discouraged to post just because of some loud women-haters. Ignore them, block them, and continue the discussion with those who also have a brain. Also, don't contribute to obvious troll threads, let them be crushed under the weight of the quality threads that actually deserves your participation. The blatantly stupid ones usually gets wastelanded after a day or two anyway.

Thanks - I`m taking that as a compliment, though I know some people don`t approve of what I do (engaging in verbal sparing with dumbass woman-haters on the heavies). In fact, when I read that thread (mentioned in my above post) my first response was to go in and slam dunk on some fools. But, when I saw the whole first page of responses was doing that already, I just smiled :) and I didn`t even post (Yay!). As I said, things are changing for the better.

We still have the women`s MMA thread for the more obscure orgs and fights (and Thirdpres`s insights)...I`ve enjoyed having all of these interesting threads and people to talk with about TUF 20...we got like 130 pages with the last Invicta thread and those are always fun...AND we can talk about UFC BWs and SWs on the heavies. I`m content with this. (But, I will still digitally pimp-slap some random misogynist morons on the heavies from time to time...sorry, can`t resist). It helps that I`m up to 27 on my "ignore list". :icon_lol:

Jo Calderwood on why she believes Aisling Daly beat Jessica Penne
Nov 28, 2014 13:06
By Alex Watt

Joanne-Calderwood.jpg

"Aisling spoke a lot of wise words in the episode about how Team Pettis had separated. They weren't really our teammates anyway and even the coaches weren't her coaching staff. It was cool that she vocalised what everyone else was probably feeling with being away from their own teammates, their own surroundings and their own gym. She kind of told it how it was.

[YT]fR0RqlL10-o[/YT]

Aisling's team in Ireland are a really close knit bunch. That's why they get along so well with our team, because they're really family oriented. I think all teams should be like that. Scottish and Irish tend to be closer teams because we've not really got the money and the opportunities that some of the rest of the world have, especially in America.

Jessica Penne was pretty quiet and she kind of kept herself to herself. She was always on the mat with Carla Esparza and Felice Herrig so I didn't really get to train with her. I respect her as a fighter, even before she went into the house, she's someone who I think is really good. I had no problems with her.

[YT]F0wNbyVg6v0[/YT]

It was really cool to visit the Harley Davidson dealership. I've done my CBT and when I was younger I kind of looked into getting a motorbike, although not a Harley obviously!

The bike would be a nice treat to get but it's not about that for me. It's not about the fame or the money or anything like that. I just want to perform and get the belt. A Harley would probably be no good in Scotland anyway! The fight and the belt is what this is all about. That's what I'm in this for.

[YT]VdEJHuX9uNY[/YT]

It was awesome when Conor McGregor visited the gym. On the day, there was a guy that came in and stood at the back of the room and we were all wondering what was going on. He wouldn't speak to us but then when Conor came in, we realised he was there to film him. He couldn't talk to us because he was Irish too so that would have given the game away.

It was a really cool moment when Conor walked in. I was so excited to see him. He's not even my teammate but it just brings it all back and you start thinking about your own team. Just seeing how happy Aisling was, it was great.

[YT]bdHAnp_1fFo[/YT]

Everyone loves Conor. He's so positive and it was so nice of him to do that. It was great for Aisling to have that just before she weighed in and it was a great boost for her before her fight the next day.

I know Conor from when he was fighting on Cage Warriors and local shows. I knew him from there and then I'd also seen him at a few UFC events. I wouldn't say we were 'buddy buddies' and phoning each other all the time but we've met before. To be honest, he was getting a hug anyway because I was just so happy to see anyone that hadn't been with me for the past six weeks. I just cuddled him thinking it was one of my teammates.

[YT]eUoSzbJ4KTI[/YT]

What you see is what you get with Conor. He's like that all the time. I've seen him outside of the UFC, and he's always just the way he is. He's such a cool guy. He's definitely a one in a million type character.

I thought Aisling was awesome in the fight against Jessica. Aisling, Justine and I were the biggest girls in the house, so I know going into the second fight that Aisling and I would be affected by that, because we had already cut a lot of weight and it takes a lot for your body to recover.

[YT]G1205OXjI_U[/YT]

I honestly thought Aisling won the first two rounds. I'm not a judge but I really thought she won both. She got two takedowns in the first round and then she got one in the second round. I thought she did enough to take both rounds and for it not to go to that third 'sudden victory' round.

I thought Jessica definitely won that third round. Aisling was clearly tired by the end, which will happen when you cut so much weight, but she did well. She was never out of the fight.

I don't understand why the fights weren't three rounds anyway, to be honest, because they should have been giving us the best opportunity to have the best fights. There was all this stuff against you and people didn't always perform to their best because of it.

Aisling was disappointed but she was glad that she could carry on and train. As she said at the end of the episode, it's not the last of her. She'll come back stronger."

UFC's Paige VanZant wants to avenge 'fluke' loss to 'TUF 20' standout Tecia Torres

Why is Karyn Bryant always asking the contestants who they didn't get along with and who has what problem with whatever contestant? Give it a rest.

Those bonuses are killing me. Good to see Penne killing it.

Hopefully that YouTube video is a spoiler and Carla and Rose win their next fights. I see Carla tooling Torres and Rose tooling JoJo.

It's the tried and true Helwani School of MMA Journalism, bro!

Now that we're in the Quarter Finals, I hope the producers will tune down on the dramas, ignore those who have been eliminated, focus on MMA-related aspects, or get to know more about the remaining contestants who have been robbed of screen time just because of their quiet personality.

With the cameras rolling 24/7, I'm sure they can find 45 minutes of quality footage from a week's worth of film stock if they really wanted to.

For those looking for fight outcome clues in everything:

Jo Jo was the subject of an article in the Oct/Nov issue of UFC: The Official Magazine, and had an interview published in the Oct. 30 issue of Fighters Only magazine.

I haven't seen any comparable for Rose.

Significant? Or not?

Clearly laying the groundworks for the upcoming UFC Fight Night Glasgow in 2015. Hope the card will be more of substance than just JoJo and Robert Whiteford :)

Joanne Calderwood: 'The UFC is definitely coming to Scotland in 2015'
By David Bateman on Saturday 20 September 2014

309589-joanne-calderwood.jpg

The first Scotswoman to compete in the world’s premier fighting organisation says the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is "definitely" coming to Scotland in 2015.

UFC president Dana White previously appeared to confirm that the UFC would come to Scotland in a Tweet sent last month.

At the moment, the UFC say they have no comment to make on the potential date in Scotland, and Glasgow's SSE Hydro, the likely destination of an event, said no talks had taken place about staging an event at the venue.

However, speaking to STV after her maiden victory in the world’s premier MMA promotion, Joanne Calderwood says she is certain that the UFC will come to Scotland in 2015.

"It’s definitely going to happen," Joanne said. "I've got a feeling and I've heard a few things too.

"Unofficially, I know it’s coming in 2015. It has to come. If I keep winning, there’s no ignoring bringing the UFC to Scotland."

Calderwood became the second Scot to win a UFC fight by defeating Emily Kagan on this week's episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

She is now in the quarter finals of the TV show, which will crown the inaugural UFC women’s 115lb champion.

Filming has already been completed, but the results are kept under lock and key until the show airs on BT Sport in the UK and Fox Sports in the USA.

Many industry experts tipped Joanne as a front-runner to win the title, and the UFC itself ranked her as #2 of all 16 competitors.

The UFC president has claimed that someone on the TUF 20 cast could be the 'next Ronda Rousey', the UFC’s current female 135lb champion who recently appeared in The Expendables 3 and Fast & Furious 7.

Could the 'next Ronda Rousey' be the 27-year-old from Kilmarnock, who trains out of Glasgow's Griphouse gym? After a smile and a pause, she answers.

"I don't think anyone in the division is miles above everyone else, there's too much talent. I don't think there is a Ronda Rousey - someone who is above everyone else," Joanne said.

She can’t say if she’s won, but what about the possibility of a title shot at some stage in the next year?

“Yeah I’ll have a title shot in the next year. I’m going to be the champion," the unbeaten 8-0 fighter says.

That confidence is built from her roots at the local Dinky Ninja's Griphouse gym, where she trains alongside with some of the best male light, feather, bantam and fly weights in the UK and Europe.

Moving to The Ultimate Fighter House meant leaving behind her gym, sparring partners and fianc
