Yeah the notion of him beating Masvidal or Nate Diaz is laughable. Granted he still had some time to develop, although this further reinforces my point anyway.

Why is it laughable?

Lee was bigger than both of them, beat fighters that beat fighters that beat both of them (MMath), was a strong starter, extremely aggressive, and had KO power on both hands... It's perfectly reasonable to me...

Your point doesn't make any sense.
His development would have been more about TDD and incorporating a better kicking game.
Lee was a full sized middleweight. Low bodyfat and was doing the streetfighting thing before Masvidal, but with a few less rules than a Kimbo filmed backyard brawl.
Murray would have been tooling both of these "BMF"ers before they finished their puberty.

One thing I will say - extortion is a real thing. The way it works is that if you have a product and make a connection with them, but aren't "family", they will be your best bud, make you feel amazing, birds, parties... Then they offer to help you out. For free. Then they come to you and ask for a small piece of the business as payment. This time it will just be the tough guys, and the charismatic leader guy isn't being so charming any more. And if you complain in any way, it's taken as disrespect and you're likely going to get hurt. Say a word to any authority and you're dead. Talk to a nice girl and their group will call her over and say "he'll be over in a minute" and then give you the finger as they leave with her later.. Order booze for a bar, the next day you come in and you're joking at 100 bottles with anti-shoplifters tags on them from Sainsbury...

This. Had some indirect and luckily brief interactions with Romanian and Russian mob types ... exactly as above, you are our new favorite person soon turns to everything that is yours is ours to do as we please including your business ... home ... wife! If you refuse you are disrespectful which has consequences ranging from further taking everything you have to mild violence to permanent disability to death.
No point resisting, defeat one and ten will come knocking for revenge and to make an example. Going to the authorities an even worse idea leading to certain death or harm to family and friends if you disappear. Only solution is to go far far away or to have no connection at all in the first place.

I was not personally affected fortunately, but I tried to help/advise people who were ... very horrible and helpless situations, a real nightmare far beyond what you see in movies, much more “subtle” and thus sinister and inescapable.

Keep right away from the “radar” of such people no matter how friendly, helpful and cool they might seem!
 
Anyone watched the Showtime doc "Catching Lightning" on Paramount Plus?

Lee Murray is a fascinating and tragic figure. Fucking crazy how he ended up with the worst end of the stick after thinking being kept in Morocco would work out.

In the documentary it sounds like Lee's portion of the heist has never been recovered, but the English police figure his money ended up in Abhu Dhabi. I have no idea what that means. Like someone there just took it? It's sitting in a UAE bank account waiting for him?

And his buddy, Paul something. He got released after 18 years in jail then got shot 6 times while he was renting a mansion owned by some rich celebrity. How the hell was he affording to rent a pad like that after 18 years in jail? Does he still have some of his money from the heist?!

Then the two dudes who got away scott-free and no one knows where they are. 32 million British pounds unaccounted for (sound like 10 million got stolen by Turkish mafia). But in all likelihood they are living like absolute kings in some paradise tropical place. Murray and Paul probably would've been in the same boat if they had cut ties with their wives/families.

Fucking crazy, crazy story. There will be a movie on this some day. Looking forward to when Lee gets outta jail in 12-ish years and hearing his account of everything. What strange people.
