The timeline of Jon Jones refusing to fight Ngannou

There is an old cliché that references this type of thing. "There are guys who will fight ten guys in a bar, but they're to scared to quit a job they hate". Courage, bravery, willingness, toughness, or whatever you want to call it isn't the same across all circumstances and choices.

Liars gonna lie.

Alligators gonna alligate.

Let's stick with his actual behaviors.

How do you know UFC would be fine with Ngannou potentially KOing Jones and leaving to PFL and boxing? Why would the PPVs of this fight be worth it? They knew Ngannou wasn't renewing contract with UFC, why give him a chance to destroy one of their last undisputed GOATs and leave.

UFC offered more pay than Brock and a 3 fight minimum contract and it wasn't enough. Sorry it's on Ngannou for this one, it wasn't even the wrong move financially and it was much easier. However this was a nuanced situation than Jones ducking Ngannou.

He obviously didn't think Jones matched well against him with him telling Jones to go to MW.

Isn't this an example of a promoter hyping up a potential fight with a dose of reverse psychology? The greatest LHW ever has no chance, zero, zilch, to win against this monster. Dana wanted that fight, just wanted it cheaply.

That takes a whole lotta thought (and way more conjecture) where as Jon simply saying to Dana you want me to fight the hottest guy in the HW division so pay me. Then Ngannou says you want me to fight the greatest LHW of all time and a big PPV draw (and I'm a big PPV draw), pay me. I'm going with Occam's razor on this one.
Oh I agree he has no problem fighting Ngannou and wants to be paid well to do so. Same with Ngannou wanting to be paid well for Jones. Neither are scared of the other and people pretending otherwise are being ridiculous.

BUT doing so means Jones wouldn't be able to fight Stipe in the meantime and might risk it ever happening which is very obviously his much bigger and more important goal. Shit like TS is doing are going "Jones has ducked Ngannou since 2021" as though the timeline isn't actually "Jones has wanted Stipe since 2020" which eclipses that and explains both the past Ngannou and present Aspinall situations.

People have a hard time simply admitting Jon has always wanted to fight Stipe since Stipe won the Cormier trilogy when that's quite literally what started it all and had him vacating his LHW title to try and move to HW... to fight Stipe.

It was never an option, Gane was the last fight on his contract

Maybe Dana was ducking. Look at how he holds up the HW division shamelessly so Jones can have his retirement fight against an irrelevant opponent (meaning one that isn't in the title picture), perhaps he manipulated the situation so that they wouldn't fight to keep Jones relevant in hopes of more big money fights. A fight against Gane was the greatest gift he ever gave Jones. He obviously didn't think Jones matched well against Frank with him telling Jones to go to MW.
What does that say about Francis going to PFL and not even competing in their HW division then?

He wasn't hyping it though. That was a buried video that was recently brought to light.

Dana is always hyping, that is his job and he is good at it. Besides he had cameras in his face and a microphone, it wasn't like he was whispering it to his neighbor over the fence.

I don't know since it is all speculation. It doesn't really make a lot of sense to go deep into people's minds; that's sort of creating your own scenario. What I was say was that with all of this speculation that one or the other was ducking, there could just as well be a situation where Dana manipulated to get what he wanted. He was the one pulling the strings (or the UFC anyway).

I think you are reading way to deep into things. What Dana hypes is Jones being unbeatable.

If Dana WANTED to hype something, he isn't shy about coming out and hyping it.

Ngannou was notoriously paid peanuts for stalling out contract negotiations since joining UFC. The whole Ngannou/Jones saga is Ngannou not signing a new contract for UFC and wanting to be a free agent. UFC didn't mind sacrificing Gane to lose to Ngannou but they did Jones. Jones was stuck in between as a carrot to get Ngannou to sign.

Finishing out your contract and testing free agency is standard practice in other sports. The UFC tries to get guys to re-sign early, when they have less leverage, and lock them into another long term deal. The UFC still retains matching rights but wasn't willing to pay what other promotions would offer. They cut him and gave up matching rights to lower his value to other promotions.

Jones stalled out for 2 and a half years but he didn't have the leverage that Ngannou did because his contract wasn't up. That's why he was begging to be cut. The UFC put him on ice until it became clear Ngannou was going to free agency.

Like I was saying, it was a smart play on Ngannou's choice for making money. My argument isnt that.

I don't know how people can think UFC would allow Ngannou to fight Jones on a contract ending soon. Where they won't control. Even boxing has clauses for rematches with the top guys. Do you think there was a chance? Ngannou has 1 fight left after beating Stipe. There was never a chance for Ngannou to fight Jones.

duck-run

At the time Jones was a LHW with way bigger accomplishments than Ngannou.

No Doubt ASG. Jones accomplished Way, Way More. Had his PED-obtained "title" stripped due to being a cheater, PED Suspensions, forcing Dana to Scrap a Main Event, cancelled from ducking Chael Sonnen through his cowardice...
Plus Pico ducked HW fighters for over a full decade...Every Single One In The Division!

But Wait There's More !

Francis also did far less than Jon in his community. Jon beat his baby his mama bloody in front of the kids, also had multiple arrests, Domestic Violence, Driving While Impaired, Hit and Run, Gun charge, etc.
he really wants Stipe so that he can beat the only other man who's beaten Cormier
Revisionist Parrot History from you AGAIN - Francis shadow realmed Stipe.

Must've missed the part where Francis ever beat DC like Stipe did.

Maybe he shouldn't have fucked off to France ahead of Stipe 1 if he wanted to be the reigning HW champ when DC moved up. Or lost his next fight to Lewis too for #1 contender to DC.
