Media The Time GSP Humiliated a 6'3" and 275lbs Georges Laraque

That was his first pro fight you goof.
He had a 4 inch height advantage.
Andy had a 5 inch height advantage on the guy who submitted his ass.

To all the newbs that weren't around during GSP's welterweight reign take a look at the time when a prime GSP out wrassles A1 athlete and monster of a man Georges Laraque. Standing at 6’3 and weighing 275 lbs., Laraque was long considered the NHL’s top fighter and one of the most feared combatants in the history of the NHL. Nothing he faced in the NHL could possibly have prepared him to face the consensus GOAT, however. Khabib is in for a rude awakening.

How many people tonguing GSP's ass in the thread were laughing at Woodley for stating the obvious about being able to tune up NFL linemen?

Pure Legend shit!!

Off the Record was an awesome show. Miss it and Landsberg tbh.

LOL @ NHL’s top "fighter" - wtf does that mean? They are nor fucking fighters!!

It's like that show that pinned a bully against a real fighter.
That's silly.

GSP fanboys are so desperate, they keep trying to find ANYTHING, no matter how ridiculous it is, to prop their hero.

This more shows that MMA fighters could take on monster athletes from other sports. A lot of people think the 280-pound dudes in the NFL/NBA would fly through the UFC HW division

You're telling me someone who knows how to wrestle will out wrestle someone who doesn't? Absolutely shocking. In other news water is wet and the sky is blue.

Nobody believes that. "A-level athlete" is a punchline on this forum.

The only time that I've seen a lot of people pretend that untrained athletes from other sports could take on UFC-level fighters was as an excuse to shit on Woodley.

If that giant had a lifelong martial arts training Id be a lot more impressed tbh.

Im about 160-165 and have subbed numerous, monstrous, HW sized dudes that lacked the techniques to not only defend my attacks, but even know what I was setting up.

Kinda like the same reason Pridejitsu got owned by a 115lb girl.

As someone who has been training for about 10 years, him having wrestling shoes on while the other guy is barefoot is very significant here. Sure he needs a certain level of skill, granted, but if the other guy also had shoes that would have been very different.

5’5” Serra made prime defending champ GSP tap to strikes

Yup, though any doctor will tell you tapping to a lock is far less necessary than tapping to strikes. Don't tap to a lock and you're out for six months, but modern medicine's very good at putting joints back together, you have minimal lifelong consequences. Don't tap to strikes and you get neurological damage that follows you the rest of your life. Which is why several national medical associations want to ban boxing and MMA, but none want to ban BJJ or judo. Locks simply aren't considered medically dangerous. Head strikes are, so they're the first things you should tap to.

Though the reality is, if you're done you're done; tap and prepare for the next fight. They're fighting for money, not to save someone's life, and not tapping (whether its to save yourself six months of joint rehab or a lifetime of headaches and slurred speech) is simply stupid. Both Anderson and GSP are smart enough to know this, which is why both have tapped when necessary. Fedor too.

Its Internet warriors who think they'd never tap to anything.

So one of the best mma fighters of all time was able to out wrestle a guy who fights on skates?

Meh. A lot of people said COnor would KTFO FLoyd in Boxing... so what?

Both are ridiculous assessments and you have to know the sport for your opinion to matter on these things.

Besides, I don't think people thought about throwing an NFL/NBA player straight into the ring/octagon and feeding them some MMA fighters.
I think they probably meant is those guys would properly train MMA and then fought, they could become champions. And that is true.
Just look at Brock Lesnar. As he is now, I don't even consider him a proper fighter, but with his Wrestling background alone, he became UFC Champion.
I do think that, should he had started training MMA straight from his as a two-time NJCAA All-American, he could have become the HW GOAT.
That is what I think people meant.

Exactly. Now imagine adding in strikes to that situation. GSP would be tagging that guys chin and could finish him or take him down even easier, and thats a guy at 170 .. :p Put in a middleweight and let them trade strikes and the big guys would crash down fast
