Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

I watched S1E1 of Lower Decks cartoon. Is it worth watching?

Yeah it's hilarious. Go in knowing it's a comedy, but each episode is packed full of Star Trek lore, and behind the scenes stuff. It has been consistently good throughout it's entire run. Most episodes feature a cameo by a star trek guest star.

Well looks like Skydance is officially buying out the Redstone family shares (they control 80% of the voting shares) for Control of Paramount and will likely be buying up more of the company. I actually think this is a great thing for Paramount and Star Trek. They held a presentation yesterday saying going forward Paramount will be focusing on key properties it already owns, rather then recklessly spending on new ones. They highlighted that 4 properties they plan to focus on and help fuel growth are Star Trek, Yellowstone, Mission Impossible, and South Park.

Skydance has a reputation as an arts focused production and makes films and shows for the fans, rather than your normal stock price manipulators that try to merge all these companies. They have some serious money behind the company now with Ellison family and Bain Captain financing the deal. Hopefully, this mean things like Legacy and other new Teek series will start getting greenlit.

Pretty interesting article. Plan is basically to merge Orcale's computing and tech prowess and merge with with Paramounts media library to form a new type of cutting edge studio.

“The massive explosion of Silicon Valley was driven by companies run by engineers and visionaries who were passionate about what they were building,” said Devlin. “David Ellison is first and foremost a filmmaker. I knew him well in the beginning of his career. His motivation to build his company wasn’t monetarily opportunistic. He built his company so he could make the movies and television shows that inspired him. So, he could tell stories. The entertainment industry needs executives who, at their core, love movies and are passionate about the art form and are not just doing the job for a stock cash-out. David is as brilliant as they come as an executive but he’s no bean counter. He’s a creative first. He’s a fan, he’s an artist, and he’s a builder. In a time where the entertainment business seems to have lost its way, having someone like David take over a historic company like Paramount is the hope we need.”
This is from a very successful Hollywood producer on David Ellison, who will now be running Paramount/Skydance. Good news for Star Trek.

Been a while since we've had new to update, but a bunch of new stuff was released at NYCc

Lower decks season 5, the final season, comes out next week.

The section 31 movie, will be released on January 24, 2025 on Paramount +, staring Academy award winner Michelle Yeoh. Depending on its success, Paramount may move forward with a number of offshoot Star Trek films or mini series on the streaming service.

Strange New Worlds season 3 has released a trailer for the upcoming season. They have also announced it has already been given a season 4 renewal. Likely to air spring/summer 2025

Star fleet Academy is nearly finished filming it's first season, and has already been given a season 2 renewal. This will likely air fall 2025.

Other than that, Star Trek Legacy rumors are still circulating, but nothing else will be announced until the Paramount/skydance merger is complete. The new CEO of the new Paramount will be David Ellison, who is a big Star Trek fan. He is known to be a CEO who cares more about the art of filmmaking, rather than being your typical finance guy. He is a former actor himself. Helps when your father is one of the richest men in the world, and is financing the deal. Ellison and skydance have funded all the modern star trek films.

I gave most of the new Star Trek shows a shot (Picard: 2 seasons, Discovery: 3 seasons) and gave up. They were badly written and acted. Section 31 trailer looks like more of the same.

A new Star Trek movie??

Do yourself a favor and watch Picard season 3. It's notibg like the first 2 seasons of Picard. Its. Basically season 8 of TNG.

Prodigy and lower decks are both solid but animated. Strange new worlds has been really fun. It's made episodic ally like TOS was. It has a great cast.

Wow, check out this "fan film" that is currently unlisted but already has over 200k views. Featuring William Shatner, with the help of some AI-assisted facial special effects. This was produced by Rod Roddenberry, who has been working on experimenting with AI for future Star Trek projects. Pretty impressive

Just watched the Lower Decks finale. Pretty good last few episodes. I loved all the lore and teasers they were throwing at the episodes. They really need to make a new series back in the TNG era.
