Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

That's one of my favorite episodes of any show I've ever seen
One of the GOATS

TNG ended 30 years ago today with "All good things"

Also Discovery's series finale airs this Thursday.

Star Trek Discovery has ended, and you want to know what... The finale was fantastic. I'm still kinda shocked how good that finale was, due to the fact they did not know the show was going to end originally. Credit to Alex Kurtzman who went to Paramount, and got them to bring back the cast and film extra footage to craft an ending, and they did a great job, in the 90+ minute final episode.

Overall the 5th season was one of the better seasons. Burnham has actually become a likable and well-written character, which she wasn't for the first few seasons. I recommend giving the 5th Season a chance if you've enjoyed any of Discovery during its run. I know many people wrote off the show right away, due to huge missteps like trying to change the Klingons, placement in canon, terrible character development, and the many people who claimed the show was too woke. But the thing I give the producers of the show credit for is that they actually listened to the fans, and made many major positive changes to the Production over its run. Not many shows do that. There is a huge Enterprise spoiler in the episode, that I didn't expect, and made it impactful for both DSC and ENT. It also I think sets up the new Academy show, with a much better place and universe to explore( I still would rather it be in the 23rd century, but it will be in the 32nd. Gotta reuse those sets to save money)

9/10 for the Finale. The show overall I would give 6/10, with the later seasons driving up the score.

Glad someone liked it, but man, for me, this had like all of the things I hated about the show amped up to a level 10.
Too much hope and feels and everything just perfectly working out the right way because of the power of love and friendship.

Mol was a completely unlikeable, antagonist that never changed, never really evolved, and yet, Michael treated her the same no matter what was at stake. It was like the trope of the stupid kid in a horror movie that keeps doing the exact thing that everyone tells him not to do and he just keeps doing it anyways and puts everyone else at risk.
It's visually a really nice show, which is why it was even more puzzling and irritating to see the money and work wasted on this rubbish. The ending shot was conceptually good, but I just didn't care about literally a single character in this show even though I've watched every single episode.
Hopefully Academy will be more my cup of tea.

Whomever is designing and creating the visual for Nu Trek is doing a splendid job. But beyond TNG players reprising their roles, the remaining aspects are not particularly entertaining for OG Trekers. I imagine Academy will be more of the same; a maximum focus on soap opera-esque conflicts, with minimal focus on the mysterious beauty of space exploration.

You don't even like Strange New Worlds? That's my favourite modern Trek by a long way and I'm a stan for STTOS.

I like Strange New Worlds.

There is just something missing about it I can't quite put my finger on.

Yeah, if you think it isn't quite all it could be then I can find sympathy for that view. Damn Anson Mount makes a great Pike though.
SNW has potential, I just hate the writing and character interactions for the most part, way too Marvel-esque with scene/tension killing jokes. Anson Mount is awesome as Pike though.

It's far better than Disco though, but that isn't saying much. What an absolute disgrace to Star Trek.

I expect Academy to be geared towards a younger audience, kinda like a WB type show. They just announced Helen Hunt will be the Lead, so at least they are bringing in some talent.

It sound like Skydance Media, is going to be buying and merging with Paramount. I think that is a good thing. They gained some major backing with Larry Ellison leading the investment and pledging to give it the funds needed, and his son who will run the company, is known as a actors producer. He is also a big Star Trek fan, and was the producer of the Kelvin universe films. He's known for letting people who know the property, run the shows. You can check out his IMDB and his resume is impressive both as an actor and producer.

Wow another big name actor has joined star fleet Academy. Giamatti was just nominated for another Academy award this past year. But he will always be Pig Vomit to me.... 😂
